I LOVE my Fitbit.

We have 6 fitbits in our family and compete. That makes it lots of fun.

I like my app

I got the Lose It app for my kindle fire HD and I really like it. I have lost 13 lbs. in 3 months. This app really just makes you accountable for yourself. You log in your calories as you eat your meals and log in your exercises. It's basically the old rule "calories in - calories out". I have always been active, but have not really watched my food intake. This just reminds you that if you don't exercise, you use up all your daily calories real quick. I'm having fun with it. It's expecially good to see results out of it too. So, I don't diet - I just keep track and if I am going out for a meal with friends, I just do a workout before and it adds more calories that I can use.

I know this thread is older but noticed the PC mag article has been updated. There seems to be a few Fitbit fans on TUG. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on whether they prefer the Flex or Zip? I just bought some bands for my sister for a new Fitbit Flex and was intrigued. Sounds like a hassle to charge one more item in this house...but it sounds like a great motivator to get my workout in. Thx

I am a big fan of the Fitbit. I still use my Force, even though it was recalled due some people experiencing a skin rash. No issues for me.

Use my Nike Fuel band every day and leave it on all the time. I'm hooked.

IMO, it looks the best. But the others are tempting also.

I recently got a Vivofit from Garmin. Comfortable to wear, it is watch like. Like the interface, it automatically links to MyFitnessPal which I also use. So I like that.

I wanted something that monitors sleep. I didn't need activity/heartrate as I already have a Polar for that.

I like Fitbit for an actual device that tracks activity.
I like MyFitnessPal as an app for inputing diet and exericise.
I like MapMyRun or RunKeeper as an app for finding/creating GPS jogging/ walking routes and distances.
I like the Couch To 5K program as a way to get started jogging - there are many apps for this and they all work.
In the past I've used a regular old notepad too. That works great too. Any method will work if you commit to it and it suits your lifestyle.

Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on whether they prefer the Flex or Zip?
I used to have the zip (now my husband has it) and now I have the Flex. There are pros and cons to both so it's just preference.

The Zip uses batteries which last a long time but need to be changed. The Flex charges. But it has to charge twice a week in my experience, which is kind of a lot, especially if you want it to track sleep.

The Zip shows you actual number of steps through the day whereas the Flex shows you a percentage with blinking lights (5 total lights, each 20% lights up a new light). The Flex also buzzes you when you meet your goal. And you can set timers on it to buzz you at specific times of day (like if you need a reminder to take a pill or something).

The silicone on both wear and tear. My experience is the Flex wears out faster, probably because of taking the device out more often to recharge. But the way it wears doesn't bother my skin whereas the way the Zip wore did.

The Zip goes on your bra strap, heart rate monitor band, wasitband, or clipped to your pocket. The Flex is meant to go on your wrist but there's one holder for it go as a necklace and the Fitbit forums mention that some people wear it on their ankle.

My mom has the Fitbit One and loves the stairs thing.

Hmmpf. My DW has a Fitbit. Waste of $100 afaiac. My $20 Omron step counter is as good at getting me up off the couch and out for a walk, cost 1/5 as much, doesn't need charging, keeps track of 7 days activity, and doubles as a pocket watch. What's not to like.

I use pencil and paper and mark down when I eat a meal, exercise and my weight. So far down 25+ pounds (seem to have leveled off at an acceptable level) and can feel fitness improving.
