The Bahamas Plans to Reopen for Tourism in July

By Alexander Britell / Caribbean Journal / www.caribjournal.com / June 2, 2020

“The Bahamas is planning to reopen its doors for tourism on July 1, the country’s Ministry of Tourism and Aviation announced.

The country is reopening under the guidelines of its new “Tourism Readiness and Recovery Plan,” which will be an approved, comprehensive guide of health and safety protocols across the country.

The program covers everything from entry and departure via airports and seaports to “extensive” health and safety protocols aimed at mitigating risks “for all visitors and residents alike....”

The Bahamas will be hurting for cruise tourists because some cruise lines have already make plannes on not stopping in Nassau. This was even before COVID-19. Example. Celebrity and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. Their reason the high crime
rate against cruisers.

Nassau is one port, we will never get off the ship.

While I have seen stories about crime in Nassau, I have seen no mention of cruise lines stopping any specific sailings to there. In fact, I believe Nassau has plans for a huge new port complex. Though I am not sure where that stands now. Nassau is the second busiest port of call in the world after Cozumel. Can you provide a source or story where it indicated RCI related lines will no longer be stopping in Nassau?

It was 10 days until July 1 where it was not going to be required. Due to the cases here it was extended. Then beginning 7/7 it was supposed to drop down to test within 7 days. Looks like they went back to the 10 days. That makes this easier.

American Tourists Banned in Bahamas After Latest U.S. Coronavirus Numbers

BY SCOTT MCDONALD / U.S. / Newsweek / www.newsweek.com / 7/19/20

“It's been almost three weeks since the islands of the Bahamas reopened its borders to international visitors. On Sunday, the island nation shut off visitors from the United States because of COVID-19.

In a national address on Sunday, Bahamas Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said that all airports and seaports—to and from the neighboring U.S.—will be shut off as of Wednesday. Americans on the islands will be permitted to leave after Wednesday under special accommodations....”
