The 2025 value of my VVP 2br week is now $72.00. I'm not affected by credit rating so I'm tempted to abandon my ownership

My 2025 VVP MF is $1,242 and to rent the same unit in my float range is $1,314 so by "owning" this unit I save $72 Wow! Right now I'm just venting, I'm going to pay my MF, not because it's a great place to own, but because as a Tugger I've learned to create hundreds in value out of $72.00. I must say though, these resorts are giving us less and less to work with.

What week and how many tpu's? For those that want multiple weeks in VV properties I think it is still possible to get that down to $600-800 per week and sometimes even less.

I understand my situation may be different than most people but I would never base the value of my timeshare on just one week in one year.

IMO your timeshare contract is like a membership to Costco which gives you access to heavily discounted inventory via exchange companies that you can only get by owning (at least until recently).

The more weeks that you buy on discount like last call extra vacation bonus weeks getaways etc the more valuable your membership is.
Using this maximization strategy your goal should be to get the contract with the lowest annual maintenance fee that provides the benefits that suit your needs.

So even if the week that you own is break Even or upside down on rental versus ownership the value comes where a non owner renting a month in a hotel or timeshare would pay double what you would pay after you add additional weeks using last call extra vacation etc because your average cost per week goes down

Is OPs method how everyone else in the forum values their timeshare?

No, if you want to be a landlord there are much more lucrative and less risky ways.

From reading the discussions on how people value TS there are probably as many different ways as people who think about the issue. Anything from "value" of memories with family and friends, to the commercial pay-back. People use different criteria to measure the relative cost benefit, whether that is Redweed comparisons, branded website purchase cost or third party booking platforms.

Personally it was a straightforward process when buying, I knew what we were actually paying for vacation lodging and ran the numbers based on all exchange fees chargeable and a 10% year on year escalation. The numbers worked out so we bought, and it took 20 years for the all up costs to get to what we were paying before we purchased, and we got much better quality accomodation for the cost. If our travel patterns chance so we can't get the accomodation that we want for the cost of the maint fees we'll look at putting them up for adoption for someone else to make good use of, happy that its worked well for us for a long time.
