Just moved to Texas from the Big Easy (not so easy any more) and wondered about a good to great timeshare in Texas just to get away and chill out for a long weekend.

Thanks,

Sterling

In what part of TX did you settle?

Sterling,

If you want to be able to take your dog along there are a number of Silverleaf resorts in Texas that are nice and often come up in RCI Extra Vacations so you wouldn't need to use a trade.

We like Silverleaf Hill Country in Canyon Lake and Silverleaf Piney Woods in Conroe. Haven't been to Silverleaf Seaside in Galveston yet but that's on our list of places to go since the Mother-in-law lives near there.

It makes it easier (and less expensive) for us to travel with our dog if we are staying within Texas. If you do try Silverleaf be sure and select a 6/6 unit which is a "Presidential" unit and are nicer and larger with more amenities (like washer/dryer) and usually a better view.

Photos of timeshares we've stayed in are available at:

Silverleaf's Hill Country Resort would be a good fit. Look for ebay auctions for units with numbers > 91. I just picked up a Lodge unit (2 br lockout, not a Presidential) for $130 for week #32. Be sure to make sure there is a bonus time disclosure sheet to allow you to use the bonus time which allows you to stay up to 3 night free Sunday through Thursday and for $49 a night on Friday/Saturday. You probably will not be able to get bonus time at Hill Country during the summer, but Spring and Fall are nice times when the limited amount of bonus time is more available.

Check out Silverleaf's web site to see all their resorts.

We stayed at the Hill Country resort a couple of years ago and enjoyed our stay. We have friends in Fredericksburg and they showed us around. They drove us from the resort to New Braunfeld along the Guadalupe River...great scenery and they said in the summer it was a great place to go tubing. While in New Braunfeld we went to the African Safari and had a ball driving through the complex and getting to feed some of the animals. Some stuck their head in the windows or followed us. We also went to the caverns there. They volunteer at the LBJ park and we went on a tour there and went through the Heritage Farm where Bill works. It's an actual working farm from about 1910. They make butter, lard...and are dressed as they were back then. We also stopped at the Wildflower store/gardens. We were too late to see all their flowers, but it was still interesting. We also took a boat ride on the lake and heard the history.
