Terrible accident/ explosion at Whaler's Condominiums in Ka'anapali, gas grill exploded and first responders report there are probably a few deaths

There is a video on Maui News 24/7 Facebook page in the comments. This happened about 90 minutes ago. It's still early here on Maui. We are at Sands of Kahana currently.

Prayers for the families of those injured and killed. The gas grill was probably left on, the inside of the cover filled with gas, then it blew. Most hotels and resorts vent the grills but Whaler's apparently didn't vent this one. What a terrible accident to happen while on vacation.

So sad, but so heartening to see so many running toward the location immediately after the blast to help. First responders don't always wear a uniform, turnouts, or have a gun or badge.
 
What an awful thing to happen.... anytime. Prayers to all involved!! :cry:
 
 
Just to add, always open lid for. A few minutes, and smell for gas odor before lighting. Not saying this would have prevented this particular incident, but good practice.
 
My wife and I were sitting on the beach for sunset at WKORV when the explosion occurred. A huge BOOM echoed off of Black Rock. We looked at each other and thought "that wasn't something normal. Sounded like it was somewhere along Whaler's Village". Then heard sirens a few minutes later. Scary.
