I have read the TUG reviews but can't decide between Club Wyndham Smoky Mountain RCI #5993 and Holiday Inn Club Smoky Mountain Resort RCI #7540.
Does anyone have any suggestions or comments?
Thank you in advance for your insights.

We have been to both, and they are both a fine choice. However..... Holiday Inn Club Smokey Mountain Resort is perfectly located in the middle of Gatlinberg. You can easily walk to the main street with dozens of places to eat and other entertainment. Plus if I recall correctly, there is no parking fee at the Holiday Inn, as parking around the town is pricey. Units are spacious and comfortable.

And to the OP, this is why I would suggest staying at the Wyndham Smoky Mountains. I've stayed there twice and found it very convenient and far enough away to the throngs of people in Gatlinburg. That said, if you want to spend time in town there, staying there is better because of the parking situation.

I love the Wyndham location for the same reason Von does---it's easy to get most other places without having to deal with the mess that is Parkway and you can avoid Gatlinburg entirely to almost any destination in GSMNP. It's even pretty easy to get from the Wyndham to Gatlinburg by taking Veterans and then the Bypass. There's only a small segment on Parkway, and that's not a particularly congested section. You can park at the east end of town, and everything is walkable from there.

And, if you are a theme park fan, the trip to/from Dollywood is short and traffic-free.

The only downside for me of the Wyndham is that it is looking just a little tired to my eye, both inside and out.

Full disclosure: I've never stayed at the HIVC, and that might be awesome too.

And on the bypass, there is still plenty of opportunity to see bears! This photo was from last October (10/29/22), at a pullout with plenty of safe space to view this guy up high in the trees.
