Hi, I hope someone can help me because Marriott were singularly unhelpful when i contacted them.

I am looking to book a room in the jw marriott in Cancun next year and on searching for dates I get the number of points needed and it clearly says all taxes
included.

However when i select to book it , it is asking for $430 in addition to these points.

Does anyone know what the situation with this is? This seems huge for a tourist tax..
Thank

That will include their resort fee. I just did the same thing to burn a bunch of Bonvoy points. I also did a paid room upgrade so it's tougher for me to see the breakdown, but I know that was included.

There is a $35 per night resort fee at this hotel.

Sadly the points never cover the resort fee or parking costs. We have stayed a couple times at the Gaylord Palms in Orlando on Bonvoy points. That free night ends up costing about $65 with parking and the resort fee.

I did a test for JW Cancun and noticed there is a $35/Day Resort-Fee + Tax on the fee.

I am so sick of these “resort fees”. They almost always include stuff we have zero interest in or need. Or, they include things we already get with our status. Every time we encounter them, I get annoyed. Grrrr! Rant over.

Thanks everyone, i have finally got someone at Marriott to explain.

Despite the fact it says on the initial booking ' taxes and all fees included' - they aren't. They helpfully tell you when you go to book that there is THEN a statement that says there may be other fees.

The resort detailed what the resort fee includes:

Two coffees/ STAY
Free internet
a wine tasting
exercise classes
access to the tennis court
A scrub bar - I think they mean a bar of soap
a dessert each.

well thats not a lot for $430 plus the internet is the only thing i want but it seems this is the way of things.

You don't get lounge access because it's a resort - that's another $350 plus taxes

not really impressed !

In my mind, if we don't book the resorts with unacceptable fees, maybe some day they'll get a clue and drop them. More likely, enough people will just pay them and be unhappy, and they'll continue to pop up more often.

There are a few resorts that waive or reduce fees for those who are a higher level of rewards VIP status like Platinum or Titanium. Obviously this could change at any time. I'd pick up the phone and call them before booking to see if there is any flexibility.
