Hi everyone! We are preparing for our 8 night stay at the Grand Waikikian in a few weeks. I've been reading about Hawaiian tourism tax, etc.

As we're staying with HGVC (we don't own in Hawaii, but used our points balance to book this stay) are we subject to those taxes at check-in/check-out? Just trying to plan ahead and be prepared.

Thanks!

I believe everyone pays the TAT (Transient Accommodation Tax).

Something generated by AI, so take it for what you will:

Hawaii has some of the highest tourism taxes in the world, including a state Transient Accommodations Tax (TAT), a General Excise Tax (GET), and county surcharges:

  • Transient Accommodations Tax (TAT): A 10.25% state tax on gross rental proceeds
  • General Excise Tax (GET): A 4.712% state tax on all guest rooms and suites

  • County surcharges: An additional 3% tax on top of the state TAT
For example, a hotel stay in Hawaii that costs $400 per night generates nearly $72 in taxes per night.

Everyone pays the occupancy taxes: owners, renters, exchangers. The Grand Waikikian should be in the range of $25 per night. What really gets you at this resort is the parking garage fees! To avoid them, only rent a car for the day(s) when you need to leave Waikiki, and/or park outside the resort and walk a bit.
