Sounds like they might in essence be 1BR villas that sleep 6. And some will be dog-friendly.

Another “take them off the resort’s books and let the DVC owners pay to maintain them” flip. No wonder the ROFR activity has been zero the last few months - DVD will have a boatload of resorts in active sales next year.

Not surprised. Although I was thinking more along the lines of them eliminating large portions of the campsites. Maybe they are testing the waters. I’ve never camped there, but know it is extremely popular. Can’t beat the price and location. I really would hate to see that. Not buying any more points, but would love to try it out.

That will mean more exchanges for me. When these newest resorts open, another older one shows up for exchange.

Rick only wants OKW. Even a BLT doesn't entice him.

I think it might also be "These trailers are getting pretty long in the tooth, but it is hard to justify a to-the-foundation rebuild for cash guests. Let's do this instead."

Are they modular-type units or actual trailers? Never stayed in those little cabins.

So the current cabins are considered a Moderate accommodation, when they convert to DVC will they be considered Deluxe for the extra perks that Deluxe resorts provide?

they are trailer home type, but made to look like a cabin on the outside. Just watched a you tube video. They are quite cute, I think they come with a golf cart. That being said, it seems they are just going to use the footprint and demolish the existing. It is in such a pretty area…..woodsy and not like the majority of the area. It would be a nice change. All of my contracts are either direct or grandfathered in….I’m sure the resale restrictions will be put in place, just like the new ones in California and I’m sure the new Polynesian tower will be too.
im hoping they put in a real kitchen….the current ones have a two burner cooktop and microwave. I have to say, I’m getting a little excited about this.
@rickandcindy23 I can see why BLT isn’t appealing When compared to OKW. OKW is beautiful and relaxing (but inconvenient to parks). BLT is sterile and modern and busy (but so convenient to MK and monorail).

They are fully equipped cabins with a bedroom with a double bed and bunk beds, plus the sofa/couch in living area. Full kitchen and kitchen table. Little porch outside door along with a grill. Comes with own parking space right at cabin and has plug in for the golf cart (golf carts are NOT included BTW). Kids LOVED staying here so much it was hard to get them to parks! The boat to MK was AWESOME-coming back once the captain asked if the boat if we wanted to take it slow and we could watch MK fireworks from boat-was pretty neat.
Makes me sad to think this might be even higher priced and DVC. Was great option for lower price for larger families. Plus cabins in a CAMPSITE are supposed to be rustic looking-hate the new “modern” rendering!

We haven’t stayed in the cabins in years, my boys outgrew the tiny bunk beds but we absolutely loved them when my boys were little. To be honest they were a pretty decent deal IMO for disney collection exchange.

They are one of my fondest disney memories-
My youngest about 5 years old or so at the time stuffed himself silly with the unlimited milk shakes at plaza restaurant…he told the waitress he was done and wanted to go to the “cabinet” to take a nap.

It’s been the running joke in the family ever since-

I guess the you tube was an old one. I have to agree, I don’t like the artist rendering of the outside. I’d rather them keep the log cabin look. It reminds me too much of the forbidden Reflections. And I thought I read somewhere that golf carts were available for cabins. Do you rent Them? Having the use of a golf cart could be an incentive to buy there.
The more I think of it, the more I’m thinking about it. I’ve always been envious when driving past the entrance to the Fort….all those campers and trailers checking in and hanging out in the parking lot. I’ve heand about the great Halloween and Christmas decorations the campers put up. It’s like it’s own little world in the World.

We spent our very first WDW visit as a family in the FW Cabins, so I have a sentimental attachment to them. And now that we’re older and spend more time at our resort, I’m beginning to be excited about the possibility of staying here in future.

When we stayed at BLT it was an RCI exchange, early on when RCI had a lot of inventory sitting online. Stayed twice via RCI, and I loved it, but Rick didn't like the furnishings. But honestly, when we are in Orlando, we are generally gone all day and go directly to shower/bathroom and bed for TV. We are too tired to enjoy the living room much. The hotter the weather, the more welcoming that king bed looks.

Yes we rented from offsite for our golf cart. Worked out as he has rental just before us and just after so we did t have to meet off property to pick up the golf cart-just parked on certain spot and left key. The golf cart was a large part of our experience at the Fort actually. And this was one of my very favorite stays as well & was during time a kid was DCP so we got to experience many resorts. The Fort is just so peaceful, laid back. Think the pool was my sons favorite even over Beach Club-had that vibe. Dislike that it’ll be turned into DVC and ruin what made Fort Wilderness unique.

I remember the cabins as originally were Airstream trailers. Those were replaced with the modular cabins sometime in the late 90's. They originally had a double bed in the bedroom along with a set of bunks. Those were replaced with a queen bed and a set of bunks. With just a refresh, they will need to make the queen a king. Put the bunks in the living room with the sleeper sofa. Maybe only sleep 5 (one pull down under the TV and a sleeper sofa). And get rid of the mason jar mugs.

They'll probably be pointed too high for what you get..

Our first trip to Disney World, when our kids were in 2nd and 3rd grades, was a cabin in Ft. Wilderness. We also had a big family trip years later when they were in high school to the cabins, with six of us siblings and our kids in six cabins. The early mornings of that trip are among my best DW memories - I can still picture all the kids meeting in the middle of the loop every morning so excited to be planning their days - "who's going to Epcot with Auntie Dottie? Not me, going to Universal with Uncle Don and Uncle Billy! Auntie Leenie's taking us to Magic Kingdom, meet us there for the fireworks later!"

No doubt we'll still be able to use cash for whatever the replacements are, the same way we use cash for OKW and BC stays, but those things aren't cabins and I'm going to miss the cabins very much.

Out of all the WDW resorts we have stayed (and there have been alot) our stay in a cabin at FW has been my favorite. The cabin was nothing grand. But, the overall vibe at the resort was something I haven't been able to duplicate at WDW. And I know why.....it didn't feel like I was in the Disney bubble and I really liked that.
