We have friends going to SurfWatch that are confirmed in an "ocean vista" unit. What buildings are considered ocean vista? Thank you.

Here's the SurfWatch resort map.

All of the oceanvista units are in the Ocean Dunes (5600) building closest to the beach, separated from it by a boardwalk over the marsh that leads to the oceanfront pool/bar and then the beach. It's five floors with 3BR non-lockoff units on both ends of every floor and the rest 2BR non-lockoffs. The first floor is one level up with the parking under, and the front desk considers floors 3-5 to be "high floor" when handling requests.

Note SW is a resort that does not necessarily honor the building/unit type when the reservation is confirmed through II, and, that uses a rotational placement system that could mean owners who are placed one year into the highest-demand "high floor" units may be placed the next year into a lower-floor unit.

Thank you so much for all this information! They will be so excited to hear this. The confirmation from Marriott states "Your reservation is confirmed for a 3-bedroom villa ocean vista". Since that is from the SW desk and not II, they should be getting that. Do you agree? Thanks again! I will share all your information with them.

Was it an II exchange? If yes, while Marriott.com may show Ocean Vista the resort may not honor it even though it came from Marriott.

It was an II exchange. They got the pre-arrival e-mail from Marriott SW and put in their preferences. Today they received an e-mail from someone from "Marriott’s SurfWatch Resort Team". They forwarded the e-mail to me to see what I thought. It is the standard, "know before you go", "your happy place awaits", "commitment to clean", "service animal policy", etc. In the e-mail it stated that they were confirmed in a 3-bedroom villa ocean vista and then "Here's what to expect". Do you think they can expect to be in Ocean Dunes, or just hope for the best?

With an email from the SW team specifically noting "ocean vista," I'd say there's a 99% chance that's where they'll be. It still might not happen but chances seem to be very slim. With only ten 3BR oceanvista units there's not much finagling that can be done anyway. As for low or high floors, I'd take any unit in that building and be happy. From the high floors the ocean view is beautiful but from the lower floors you get to see all the wildlife in the marsh, and in my opinion that's just as good as the ocean. If kids are involved, they'll love finding the bigger birds poking in and out of the tall marsh grass from the balcony.

Tell them relax and have fun - and take a few strolls through the entire resort to enjoy the perfect setting. :)

Thank you! I know they will be thrilled just getting to be in that building on a trade. They love wildlife, so a lower floor will be just fine, but it's always a plus when you get to see the ocean. Thank you so much for all your help!

I would agree with Sue, chances are good, but there is a chance that there is a problem with a unit or a guest that requires a switch and could result in the guest being dumped to a lower view. With an II exchange, you are at the bottom of the totem pole.

@sudiski did your friends get the ocean vista unit?
I just did an off season exchange and it shows that code.

As your visit gets closer, you will get an email from the resort team asking for your preference.
The OP said after the submitted their preferences, they received an email from the resort itself confirming the unit. If the resort confirms where you will be staying, you will likely get that (say 99%). What view II tells you in the confirmation doesn't mean much other than for the room size.

Thank you, I see what you are saying. I exchanges into two units same checkin date. 3BR TBBV and 2BR DBBV which is Ocean Vista. But until I get the pre arrival email, I won’t actually know.
@sudiski did not indicate what code was on his II exchange.
