We'll spending Thanksgiving at Surfwatch this year and looking for recommendations for dinner, either at a restaurant or from a take home place like a grocery. There will be 5 adults, and we'd be interested in something tasty but moderately priced. We haven't been in that area in years for the holiday, and don't know where to look. We realize the resort will probably have some suggestions when we check in, but it would be nice to have some ideas before we get there...so maybe we could make a reservation before we arrive. The last time we were there we had trouble finding something.

Any ideas will be appreciated!

Last year we got a fried turkey from One Hot Mama's and were able to pick it up on Thanksgiving day rather than reheating. We did our own side dishes but they were available. We enjoyed it. Wild Wings offered the same option but pick-up was the day before. Publix offered a take-out meal package as well but again, pick up the day before. Although we've never tried it, we heard the Thanksgiving buffet at Golden Corral is good, affordable and plentiful.

Thanks to all for your suggestions! We will certainly check them out, and see if one will work for us.

I've looked at Publix preciously for other locations, basically frozen stuff to heat up. Cracker barrel has worked the best for us but unfortunately the one on island closed. I might look at fresh market and whole foods. I suspect One Hot Mama's, Frankie Bones and Big Jim's BBQ may be the best option but a little more pricey. Let us know how it works out.

The Krogers on Shelter Cove Lane is enormous and well-stocked with pretty much anything/everything (including excellent prepared foods). I might get in trouble for calling it a gourmet supermarket, but I was impressed.

Last year I stayed at Grande Ocean and they supplied a turkey roasting (foil) pan and a baster. I bought a turkey for cheap, made the fixings, and had thanksgiving in our unit. Take a look at Fresh Market also.

The Fresh Market, has excellent turkeys, you can buy turkey and roast the bird, then add sides or buy cooked turkey with all the "fixins"!

Again, I would like to thank everyone for the suggestions! We’re leaning towards doing something in the unit, so we can have leftovers. But I do hate the mess. We’ll see...

We seem to rotate between Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach at Thanksgiving (depending on what Interval gives us). Several of the resorts have provided foil roasting pans at check-in, which has been useful. I suggest going to Walmart or the grocery store as soon as you get to town and buying extra/disposable aluminium foil cooking pans since you have a limited number of pots and pans and you'll need those on the other days. Over a few days, go ahead and make your side dishes and put them in those disposable pans (they come with lids) and that will totally reduce the work and stress of a cramped and limited kitchen on Thanksgiving Day itself. Yes, you'll probably end up throwing away some unused ingredients (but it's still cheaper than paying for buffet meal). PLUS, you'll have the leftovers! We've decided there's only so much food you can eat at one sitting and we'd rather eat, relax and watch football.

A couple of years ago, we did drive from Hilton Head to Savannah to Paula Deen's restaurant (The Lady and Sons) for our Thanksgiving meal. We didn't want the "same expected restaurant/hotel buffet. Yes, it was a bit touristy, but I must say, we actually found the food much better than expected. It was a fun change.

This year we will be at Oceanwatch and I'm seriously considering ordering one of those fried turkeys from Bojangle's for the change and adventure.

Last Thanksgiving we went to Skillets in Hilton Head. Very reasonably priced, everyone liked it, runned by a very nice family and gluten free friendly. Even though gluten free stuffing was not on the original Thanksgiving menu, when I visited a few days earlier the owner said he would make it for me, he did. There are different choices, this a picture of one of the meals my daughter chose.

We have done Fresh Market small turkey dinners specials for the past three (3) yers. They have been very good.( Turkey breast, cranberry, rolls, stuffing, and a green vegetable).

That sounds yummy. Was there a cornbread stuffing (dressing for you Northerners) available too?

We have cooked Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings and sides in probably every Marriott on HHI (but not in Nov., long story.) It's totally do-able, esp. if you can bring (or buy) a few extra pans with you (as is suggested above.) However, if you are going in Nov., it would be an excellent excuse to buy a Bojangles fried turkey, which would free up some oven space for making your own sides to go with it.

Last Thanksgiving (in Nov.,) we were at Waterside in NC--it was the largest kitchen I have *ever* had the pleasure of preparing Thanksgiving dinner in. There was a separate prep sink in the largest island to ever exist in a timeshare! We invited the resort manager (who lives onsite) to eat with us; we had six total for dinner. (The manager was fantastic; he got up early and turned the hot tub on for us so we could get in during sunrise each day we were there.) It was great, and I would go back in heartbeat. I was planning on coming back and writing a review, but then I ended up breaking my hip....that's another long story, LOL!
