My daughter and I plan to visit Williamsburg, Va in Feb '07. We can't decide between Sunterra Greensprings or Sunterra Powhatan. Why would we choose one over the other? I know Greensprings is considered Gold Crown, but a friend swears by Powhatan. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Corky
We stayed at Greensprings in May on our first ever timeshare exchange a few years ago. We were 3 adults, there to visit Williamsburg & the historic sites. We loved our unit. It was very spacious, clean, & in great condition. The large deck had a view of trees with a peek to the golfcourse. We spent every morning having our coffee there & most evenings eating dinner as well. We were not near the pool/clubhouse area which was okay since we never used them anyway. The indoor pool was very nice, we were just too busy. Parking was convienent, the staff was very helpful with info, maps, & such. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was fully equiped (no s & p though), & the washer & dryer were brand new. It was very quiet, even though we had neighbors. If you stay there, call ahead to ask for a "walk-in" unit. Then you won't have to deal with stairs. I would certainly recommend Greensprings but I've not been to Powhatten so can't advise on it. Powhatten is a little closer to town but not enough to make a big difference. Both are out of town a few miles.

I can't recommend one over the other as I have not stayed at both. We did stay at Greensprings and I have pictures of the two bedroom unit we were in plus some of the grounds if you like to see them. The pics are located at the website at the link in my signature below.

I've stayed in both and would stay in either again, and probably will. Here are the deciding factors for me:

1. Greensprings has a king size bed, where Powhatan has a queen in the master. If that is important to you, you may want to use that in making your decision.

2. Powhatan has a hot tub ROOM, while Greensprings has a jacuzzi tub. The hot tub is a HUGE selling point for us and has added a great deal to the enjoyment of our vacation. See attached picture.

I've stayed at both, I own at both. I prefer Powhatan for over all ambiance (and being the skinflint that I am, it's 20% less points through Club Sunterra). King vs Queen is an excellent point, and remember that the hot tub room mentioned for Powhatan is in only the downstairs units (both 1BR & 2BR), the upstairs units (which are just as numerous) do not support a hot tub.

Thanks, Doug, K and Spence. Loved all the photos of Greensprings and the hot tub room at Powhatan. Tought decision as both places come highly rated. This seems like a win-win situation.

It would help in making a decision if I knew which resort had more areas to hike/walk, as my daughter and I are great walkers. Also, do you think I could request and receive a ground floor/hot tub room unit or room with a view - which resort seems more customer service friendly?

Thanks again.

Powhatan has walking trails around the 'village' and Greensprings has Williamsburg National Golf Course which you could probably walk the cart path. Reservations and room assignment for Sunterra and II/RCI exchanges for both resorts is at a central office at Powhatan. They try to honor special requests but there are only so many hot tubs.

Powhatan

I've stayed at Powhatan several times since I live a couple of hours from there. Some units have been remodeled and some have not. There are lots of areas to walk at Powhatan as it is very spacious. The unremodeled units are okay, but really need updating. I've called and requested specific types of units and if I requested two things, only one got honored. I have never stayed at Greensprings, so can't comment.

Powhatan and/or Greensprings

We too own and have stayed at both on a regular basis. The time of the year just might be a consideration as well as the interests of your party. The indoor pool at Greensprings is, in my opinion, a little nicer. And there is a nice hot tub next to the pool. The units are very nice as well. However, if things like your own private in-unit Jaccuzzi (first floor) and great walks are more important then Powhatan is the place. Either way you really can't go wrong, both are nice. Enjoy your stay!

My head is spinning from all the positive reviews of both resorts. Thanks to everyone.

Since my daughter and I both love walking, we're leaning toward Powhatan.
