I suspect the recent massive maintenance fee increases across multiple systems is partially behind the recent proliferation of these types of businesses.

@chapjim that response really cracked me up.
To the OP, we have seen a spike in these questions and I could share different links to it but the summary is:
1. No company can do something for you that you cannot do yourself when it comes to timeshare exiting.
2. Your options are:
A. give it back to the resort
B. Find a buyer
C. Stop paying (last resort)
3. To give it back to the resort, simply call them. Maybe call more than once if you don't get a yes the first time. You can also search this group to see what kind of deedback options the system has.
4. To sell it, post it here on TUG. There is the free section, the marketplace
There is also Redweek (recommended to use the self service option). No matter where you post you can select any closing company after you find a buyer. LT Transfer is popular among this group.
4. No matter what you do, don't pay anyone an upfront fee. You just made the person's day if you do and you did not get anything in return.
5. Just FYI, don't think you can sue them after the fact. These are "no asset LLCs". Meaning even if you win a case against the company, there are no assets to use to collect on your win.

I'm also seeing, and reporting, a lot more posts in the forums of people "asking" how to get rid of a timeshare while providing all the details to it just being an ad.

How did you come to hear of this company? What is this company offering to do for you and for how much?
Please Lanny, don't encourage it :).
After reading dioxide45 post, it struck me. The OP didn't come here asking for help to get rid of particular timeshare, the name of some company was introduced to us instead.
I fell for it.

Not necessarily. Sometimes we get inquiries like this from sincere owners who get unsolicited contacts from scam companies wondering if this is a scam or not. Other times, it's shills. The OP asked a question, albeit quite vague. In order to give a fair, accurate answer, I figured a little more information was needed to determine whether this is a shill posting or a sincere inquiry.

Since the question was rather vague, I am cautiously giving the OP the benefit of the doubt that this is a sincere inquiry as opposed to a shill posting.

If they were a shill, they were certainly pre-planners. They've been registered on the forums almost since the newer version was created.

Being an LLC company was probably my first warning sign. Buyers, be aware, as they say. One cannot sue for assets; however, has anyone ever filed a criminal report to the AG for ripping off seniors and the like?

And by “these types of businesses” I assume that you mean honest and helpful folks seeking to provide assistance to timeshare owners — right? :D

And they never even came back to see if anyone answered their post. Their last date on the forum was the same date as their post.

I went to a website sunsetescapes.net. I think they are a promotional vacation package sales company. This is where they offer discounted rates I assume to do a timeshare presentation. I do not see anything about selling timeshares, but I suppose they may dabble in that. My guess is this is the same company and no you should not pay them to list, sell or cancel the timeshare. Never a good idea, with any company. Once they have the money, they have no incentive to sell for you. I am sure they will charge a significant fee to list it for you. Then it goes onto the internet abyss forever and you are out the listing fee.
