Hi,
We have an exchange confirmation for this resort, the week of Thanksgiving. We are confirmed for a 3 bedroom unit. We have never been there, and My husband is a little worried about the accomodations and the resort ammenties. Does anyone know if the resort has a modern fitness room, and does the game room have pool tables? We were at Vistana Villages last year, and my husband wanted to go back there. Is Summer Bay as nice as VV? I may cancel my reservation if I think the resort will not be as nice, because the airfare is so expensive. I would love to hear everyones opinion. Thank you, Sue

I think you will be very happy there. It is a very nice resort. They do have a fitness room. We were at the pool houses but people who stayed at the resort seemed to like it.

I stayed at the Villas at Summer Bay in December. The unit was in need of renovation. The carpet was worn, there was water damage on the wall between the bathtub and the toilet in the master bedroom (apparently there had been a broken water pipe at some time in the past), and the whirlpool jets in the bathtub in the master bedroom spewed out garbage that I ended up using the bathtub in the guest bedroom. When I called maintenance, they took it's not-a-problem attitude and don't worry about it. Vacation Village was much nicer and I'm not a fan of it as I stayed in the B-unit expecting a 1-bedroom unit rather than a studio-style unit (it would make a nice studio but since it is listed as a 1-bedroom, it didn't meet expectations). In fairness to Summer Bay, when I took the tour where the salesperson basically told me that they segregate owners and exchangers where owners never go into the Villlas (I don't know if this is true or just the salesperson's personal opinion), I was informed that the Villas are undergoing renovation and that the building that I was in was scheduled to undergo renovation next. It would explain the attitude of maintenance but it would have been easier for them to simply say that they recognize it and that the unit is scheduled to undergo renovation as soon as they finish the current building. When talking with other guests staying at the Villas, they expressed the same dissatisfaction.

During the tour, I looked at the other units and while they looked nice, given the shape of the unit that I was in and the attitude generated, did they really expect me to have great interest? I think that you will be happy at Summer Bay if you get something other than the Villas (100-numbered-section) as many people have expressed dissatisfaction with the Villas but rave over the other sections. I think the Villas will be fine after renovations but VV would still be nicer.

We were in a 3 BR at Summer Bay a couple of years ago. I don't remember the room number and I don't know the difference between the villas and the condos. This was just my husband and I but I definitely would not have liked it for a family. After you go in the front entrance of your unit, they are 2 separate units and 2 doors. If you had children it would be like they had they own unit to come and go as they pleased.

Good for couples but not for families with children. I just did not care for anything about Summer Bay.

Summer Bay is a very nice resort, which we have enjoyed exchanging into twice. I can't answer your question about the fitness room and the pool tables.

Which of the resort IDs did you exchange into? I've never been to the Villas, but they get poor reviews. We stayed in the main resort in one of the oldest 2br units on our first visit. My only complaint was the earlier ones had a small master br that only had a queen bed. The last time we were in one of the Summer Bay Pool Houses, which was very lush.

I believe you'll find extensive reviews here. They alone are worth the modest TUG membership fee in my opinion.

My family enjoys Summer Bay. The 3BR units are large, spacious lockoffs - a 2BR unit on one side of a shared foyer and a full 1BR (with its own kitchen, living, washer/dryer, patio/balcony, etc.) on the other. The master bedroom on the 2BR side has a king bed and a large jacuzzi. The secondary bedroom on that side has two double or queen beds. The bedroom on the 1BR side has a king bed. Both sides have sleeper sofas. There is also a jetted tub in the bath on the 1BR side, but it's standard sized. There are televisions in both living rooms and in all the bedrooms. The 2BR living room has a fairly large screen (as small as 35" and as large as 52" high def - varies from unit to unit).

There is not a pool table in the recreation room. There is a small but very nicely equipped fitness center in the main clubhouse complex. There are several pools and hots tubs, an interactive playground pool, two regular playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball courts, shuffleboard courts, miniature golf, a children's activities center, a lakeside beach with volleyball, rental watercraft, bicycles and lake sports inflatables, fishing equipment, a poolside tiki bar, and a sundries shop.

The newest buildings are the 500 series. Most, if not all, of the high def TV's are in those buildings, but they have no pool immediately adjacent. The second newest are the 400 series and they do have zero entry adjacent pools and hot tubs. My favorites among the eight 400 buildings are (in order) 408, 406, 404, 402 and 407. Avoid any buildings lower than 400. The resort will try to honor your request. Most of the best 400 buildings are Sunday check-ins.

Happy vacationing!

Villas at Summer Bay is a completely separate resort designation. If you confirm into Summer Bay Resort, you should never be placed in a unit in the Villas at Summer Bay. The latter is not even a Gold Crown resort. While it is the same ownership group and the two resorts (as well as the private pool houses of Houses at Summer Bay) share resort amenities, there are few similarities between the actual units. The Villas are significantly smaller and do not even have balconies/patios. I would be unlikely to ever book a week at the Villas, but we've stayed in the Summer Bay Resort condos and the Houses at Summer Bay numerous times and have always enjoyed our vacations there. They are not the most luxurious resorts in the Disney area (the Marriotts and Hiltons and Fairfield's Bonnet Creek are more opulent), but they're very relaxing to us.
