Has anyone stayed at Summer Bay Resort recently in a 3 bedroom unit? It shows that it can sleep 12 and I am just wondering if anyone can tell me how the 3 bedroom units are here at this resort. I am thinking of a big family trip (12 of us) but have read mixed reviews of Summer Bay. This would be a Nov trip.

Any insight or recent reviews are greatly appreciated.

The three Br lock offs are listed as sleeping 12. I'm in the process of buying there, I'm not going to let the sink hole scare me away.

This is what I have been able to find out. The master Br has a King, the second Br has 2 double beds and a sleeper sofa in the living room making a total of 8, if you sleep 2 in each double bed.

The third Br is the lock off unit and is a true 1Br with 2 sleeping in the master bedroom and 2 on the sleeper sofa and it has it's own full kitchen.

12 will be a tight fit but if there are kids involved it should work. There is a shuttle to the parks also.

The sinkhole happened in the Villas at Summer Bay and it can happen anywhere. I am not worried about that. I just want to be sure the units are updated/nice, etc...and that the resort is a good one for a family for a Nov stay.

4 of the 12 are young kids.

Are there other resorts that are recommended that have 3 bedrooms that can sleep 12 other than Summer Bay? I am open.

The 3 bedroom at marriott grand vista and lakeshore reserve sleep 12. At lakeshore reserve, king bed in master, and 2 queens at each of the guest bedroom plus a sofa bed

Is that part of RCI?

I have a 3 bedroom on hold until midnight tonight so if anyone can please share their recent experience with a 3 bedroom I would most appreciate it. There is currently a 3 bedroom that sleeps 12 at Holiday Inn Club Vacations at Orange Lake Resort - East Village for my dates right now as well.

Any advice is appreciated.

I'm a liitle late to this thread

I stayed in a 3 -bedroom at Orange Lake West Village. It was not a lockout. It was excellent -- as was Orange Lake.

I recently bought a Points week at Summer Bay, but have not stayed there. Summer Bay is going though a two year renovation during 2014-2015 which not only is updating all rooms, but includes new lodging construction and new attractions.

The name of the Home Group is also changing from Summer Bay to Exploria -- which will be confusing for a while. See Exploria.com.

I don't have a dog in the race since I'm not an owner there, but I hate the new name. Summer Bay brings up a picture of summer vacations for me. Exploria --- I have no idea what that even means. Will the name change for the pool houses as well?

Generally I would never recommend filling a unit to the max unit size. So get 2 two bedroom units which both sleep 8 and put your 12 people in there.

So what all is going on at Summer Bay? I'm in the process of closing on a 3 BR through Sumday Vacations. Were there any special assessments?

No special assessments for the Resort section. I don't know about the Villas, Houses or Reserves. They are building the pirate park but are behind. It was supposed to open summer 14.

Although it was a few years ago, we had a 3-bedroom lock-off at Summer Bay and loved it! Summer Bay is one of our favourite resorts in Orlando, and we have stayed at over a dozen different ones.
I would not hesitate to exchange there again.
