Any advice on how I might be able to get telemarketers from calling my cellphone? I'm already registered for the do-not-call list.

I've had the same cellphone number for what must be at least 15 years and never had a problem up until about 4 months ago and now it's at least 4 or 5 calls a day. I'm now thinking that someone must sold my telephone number. Getting a new number is really not a possibility.

I block the number after the call, but it's literally 4 or 5 calls a day that I go running for my phone and it's one of these jokers.

It's random dialing. nomorobo works on my VOIP phone by hanging up after one ring but nothing I know about works for cells other than blocking out everybody except people in your contact list.

Cheers

Robo calls are a real pain, but as in x3 reply, I continue to block them. I probably have over 50 blocked to date, and it has slowed tremendously to where I get 1 maybe every other week. It does work ..........but their is so many. I have them from all over the lower 48. Hang in their and keep blocking.........:ponder:

Stop running for your phone. If it is important and legit, people will leave a message.

Agreed. Unless you're expecting an urgent call, don't even look at your phone, not to mention run for it.

You and Patri are absolutely correct! I need to stop running for the phone. Most of my family and friends know that an email is a much better way to get in touch with me in case of an emergency. These clowns NEVER leave a message, if it was really important then they would leave a message.

They are clowns and I wish they would stop calling. The Ringling circus went out of business this year. So clowns stop calling and find a real job.

The worst is when you're driving, and bluetooth broadcasts it thru the car.

You could tell friends+family to text you that they are calling.
I do more texting than calling these days, anyway.

For some of us, our cell phone is our work phone. Personally, I need to pick up every call because it could be either getting paid next month or not.

Android has an apps call "Should I Answer". It screens about 3 or 4 calls a day that never even make it to my phone ringing, just ends up with an entry in the log. You have various settings on it. The community on the apps traps calls and rates them. So known telemarketer numbers get flagged pretty quick as Negative, and on my settings, Negative does not even ring to my phone.

Unknown neutrals get put through, but with a warning. All number in my contact list come though will full contact info.

At last check apple did NOT have this app.

Nomorobo works on iPhones. Android is coming soon per their website.

I just reg'd for Nomorobo and I am praying this help.

We cut our land line a couple of years ago as the only calls we received were telemarketers. Friends and family called our cells or messaged us. All was good until about 2/3 months ago when we both started receiving calls on our cells...not as often as we used to receive on our land line, but annoying nevertheless. Call display does indicate a strange number, but I have a habit of picking it up anyway. The worst calls are those using automatic dialers and there is always a several second delay before someone picks up the call. I just have to get in the habit of letting calls go to voice mail, and the robo calls never leave a message.

Because I use my phone for work, my choices are limited. Nomorobo now has an app available for iPhone. I'm not certain if it's available on android. There's a yearly fee for the Papp but it's reduced the number of spammers significantly. The app allows you to select to send the robocalls direct to voicemail (phone doesn't ring) or simply put an ID on the incoming # call saying it's a robocall. I have mine sent to voicemail so I never hear the phone ring or go running for my phone. Needless to say, spammers never leave a voicemail.

There are several robocall blocking apps available for smart phones. If you still have a flip phone I don't know that there's anything you can do.

Here's one you might try, quite funny actually. Answer the phone with something like Agent or Officer .... add a last name, and a agency like FBI.

Like Agent smith, FBI, Atalanta...they will probably hang up, if not demand how they got this number? end!.

Register your phone number on https://www.donotcall.gov/. Doing so should eliminate legal telemarketers. It may slow the clandestine marketers but either way, report all unwanted calls to government regulators on the above site.

If there is no number listed for the incoming call - ignore it. Most times if the Caller (person or company) is not identified for the incoming call I ignore it. If I do decide to answer I identify myself as "X's" Assistant and that I am instructed to get the Caller's full name, Company they represent, and purpose of the Call. Then I drag out the Call so they waste time. Finally I tell them they have called a number on the Do Not Call List and that Mr. "X" will be making a Report to the Federal Government and seeking damages against them and their Company.

This did not work for us.

How do you know that? How do you count the number of legal telemarketers who are not calling you because you are on the Do not call list? Little will stop rogue telemarketers but not reporting them will definitely not help stop unwanted calls. I do everything I can, make every effort to stop unwanted calls.

Finally I tell them they have called a number on the Do Not Call List and that Mr. "X" will be making a Report to the Federal Government and seeking damages against them and their Company.

I agree with this just be sure to follow through with the threat. Find out who they are and what they want then report them to the agency operating the Do not call lists.

Have you ever listened to the YouTube about Telemarketers. Tom Mabe received a telemarketing call and acted like he was a Detective on an active murder scene/investigation. He recorded the whole call.

I agree that it's impossible to know how much, if any, donotcall.gov reduces telemarketing calls. I have noticed though that the ones that I get now are almost all local ... mostly solar sales people ... and very few ones not catering to a local audience.

We tried to sell our house over a year ago, and I still get unsolicited commercial calls from real estate agents who have bought a list of expired listings and want to try to sell it. When I tell them that their call is spam, just the same as one from any other junk caller, they are either stunned that this applies to them, or ignore me and go on with their spiel.

On our androids my wife and I use an app called Hiya. The calls stopped for the most part. We love it!

I have AT&T Call protect app on my phone. It's free for AT&T wireless customers. There is an app for both iPhone and Android. It's worked flawlessly so far. It automatically blocks calls that are scammers and it might let telemarketing go through but it will label the call "telemarketer". You can chose to answer or not answer. So far, I've not had any issues. Verizon may have something similar.

I have the app "Mr. Number" on my Android phone. Others I know have it on their Iphones. It blocks scam and fraud calls, labels telemarketers. You can choose to block any call numbers from within the app.

Since we down loaded HIYA we have not had 1 telemarketer make it through.
