 My wallet was just stolen about an hour and a half ago.
I have cancelled my credit and ATM cards. Will get a new driver's license tomorrow. Will call creditors and cancel and recurring payments. Anything else I should do?

Check frequently with the major credit bureaus to make sure no one is opening credit in your name.

You might call the three credit reporting agencies and put a 'watch' on your account, so that you're notified when somethings happening.

You should definitely call the 3 companies to put an alert on your card...

Sorry to hear this happened to you :annoyed:

When my wallet was stolen years ago I also filed a police report. Probably didn't do any good and not sure it was needed, but I did it anyway.

Were there any of your checks in the wallet? Call the bank and tell them what has happened (not just the ATM number, but the bank, too). If there were any checks (canceled, uncanceled, whatever) the thieves can use the account number to get into your bank account.

I'm sorry this happened to you. What a nightmare!

Was your Social Security card in your wallet? If not, then you shouldn't have to worry about someone trying to open credit cards in your name. If it was, then be sure you notify the credit bureaus and Social Security.

Would mind telling us how it was stolen?

Yes, do file a police report. If nothing else, it helps to track statistics and gives law enforcement more pieces to the crime puzzle.

I seem to remember reading something somewhere about having to file a police report in order to protect your rights with the credit card companies or credit agencys--or something. Sorry, my memory isn't too clear on that.

Without doing anything, your liability is $50 per credit card. After reporting it to the issuer, your subsequent liabilty is zero.

Debit cards are subject to this when used as a credit card, not as a debit or ATM card which can have hire liability amounts.

SS card was not stolen. The wallet was taken right out of my purse while I was shopping in the grocery store! I did file a police report. They are going to look at the in-store surveillance cameras.

Did you have a house or car key in your wallet.????? Combo to a safe.? AAA auto card.?? Blank checks. I would call your bank.

When my wallet was stolen, I was told by one of the cc companies I HAD to file a police report, because they needed it for their files. You might want to check with your cc companies and make sure none of them require this.
