Hi Ya'll! I am new to the world of timesharing. And have decided to purchase a week with Sheraton. However, many have told me to buy resale, and some have told me (thanks SDKath) about their experiences to buy using ebay. So, I did some research on EBay and found a few ads with Sheraton's Vistana Resort, Sheraton's Vistana Villages, Sheraton's Desert Oasis, and Sheratons Broadway Plantation. I actually want to buy a resale with staroptions, however my sales person directly with Starwood told me that I will not have any sort of perks with a Vistana, Desert Oasis, or Broadway Plantation week. Which makes me wonder if this is true? He told me you cannot use the internal exchange system and will have to use II for all exchanges. Another question is have any of you guys used timeshareweb via ebay? If so what were your experiences! Thanks again for all your help... I am so greatful.
Anthony

Hi Anthony - The best place for you to start is to read the Starwood FAQ at the top of the page - it explains Staroptions and the difference between buying resale and buying from the developer.

What your salesman told your was true, only a few resorts transfer the Staroptions to a new owner on a resale. Why - because it was setup that way by Starwood and there is no way around it.

Resorts that do have Staroptions with a resale are listed in the FAQ and they are described as being Staroption Mandatory. Take a look at it and then let us know if there is anything you don't understand.

Thanks for your help! I actually am looking at purchasing either Broadway Plantation, Desert Oasis, or Vistana Resort. I am a little lost on which one trades better, as I already am a member of the High Vacation Club and will be purchasing the timeshare only for trading. I also am looking into purchasing off of ebay so I am wondering if you have any pointers and if anyone has dealt with TimeshareWeb or SVacationman on ebay? Thanks for all your input again

I have dealt with svacationman (he is also known as ttimeshareman) and the end result was good but getting there was a very rocky road. They (he is part of 3 different companies - a pcc that obtains the ts, a sales company and an escrow? service) substituted a pga for vv but eventually made good on the deal. If you want to trade within svn, do your research so that you know what mandatory resort best fits your needs.
