Hello everyone,
Was urged by others to try asking here since this website has experienced timeshare buyers and users. Hoping you can put my mind to rest on what happened.
Went to a timeshare meeting and sat through the presentation and explanation with our rep. It sounded like a good idea but we could not afford it in cash. We were offered financing at 17.99% for 10 years, and even made to open a Hilton credit card with 12 month interest fee for the initial deposit. We were planning to apply for a Hilton card anyway (but not this one) so this is a lesser issue.
They made sign something on paper explaining RCI, but the fine print said this is not legally binding. They made us sign something on their iPad that they said needs to be signed before they can generate paperwork. I questioned them on how I can sign something without getting the actual agreement and fine print, and the rep said it comes after.
We were ushered into a “quality assurance” person’s office (I assume it was their finance person who does the actual paperwork), we signed a few pages like a W8 form and a form that says we have 7 days to cancel, and another that said we have 5 days to cancel. By then, with exhaustion and feeling ill and pressured by it all, we said no can’t do it, maybe tomorrow. They said okay come back tomorrow.
Later that same night, texted our rep said we won’t be making it. It doesn’t work to pay that much in interest to carry debt for vacation points. He said no problem, his manager will call us with next steps. No callback received. I don’t expect their call, and I don’t know what rigamarole they will pressure me with if I tried calling them first.
So…question is I did not sign anything so far that resembled anything legal, like a purchase agreement, deed, etc. I did not even sign the page that says I agree to receive whatever annual points they were promising. From my perspective, we ended this before it was even finalized and signed.
I could take the conservative approach and send a certified cancellation letter for peace of mind, but realistically can they even come after me for this? I worry they’re not calling back to let the 5 or 7 day time lapse.
Thank you for your time and help.
