I too just purchased a 2 bedroom unit at the WKORV. I understand this is a mandatory resort. I have called into SVN several times now and they give me a different answer everytime I call.

My question is since I am buying at a mandatory resort I am told I must pay a REENROLLMENT fee of $599 to join SVN. Once I pay this $599 one time, Crystal with SVN, told me I WOULD have StarPoints. Is this correct?

Thank you!

Since this is a Starwood question, I moved it to the Starwood board.

I believe you have been given the wrong info. We have many resale owners here and no one has been allowed to pay a fee to get Starpoints. Either you are being given the wrong info. or this is something brand new.

Resale weeks do NOT have the ability to convert to StarPOINTS.

You should automatically have StarOPTIONS without paying a fee.

BTW - I would never pay to be able to convert to StarPOINTS - you will get a lot more value out of your TS by using it, renting it, or using it for Starwood Exchanges. Converting it to points will get you about 5 night in a standard hotel room!

What number did you call to reach Crystal?

Would you mind telling us how much you paid?

For more info. about how Starwood works, we have a lot of resources at the top of the board. I'd start with the FAQ.

Just want to make sure you realize that StarOptions and StarPoints are 2 very different things. Be sure to read the FAQ to understand the difference. Did you buy this resale or from Starwood directly? If you bought resale, you get Staroptions (mandatory resort) but NO STARPOINTS. If you bought from Starwood directly, you will get both with no "enrollment fee."

I bought resale and didn't have to pay a re-enrollment fee. The only people who've had to pay to get into SVN, to the best of my knowledge, are the folks from existing development acquired by SVO who were given a one-time opportunity to join SVN.

We bought at the regular WKORV NOT at the North location. Actually I preferr the one we purchased over the North. I think our pool is better. We bought a deluxe 2-bedroom lockout every year for $23,000. I am thinking this was a good price. At the resort the sales person on the tour offered us a regular 2-bedroom lockout every year for $65,000. What is your opinion on this deal?

Thanks!

It's a great price! I'm guessing it's Island View?

That sounds like an excellent price. I assume it was an Island View?

Congratulations!

Glorian - Great minds think alike! We are tele-pathetic! ;)

(And if that is all she paid for an EY 2 bdm. OV I'm gonna cry!) :bawl:

Hopefully, she'll weigh in and let us know. If it was OV, that would be an incredible deal!

I previously heard of a WKORV Dlx 2Bd LO IV that sold for $21000 - about 1 year ago from a frequent Tugger.

As to what they are telling you - NO. In the Owners Manual (OM) SOs are described as Staroption Points and that should not be confused with SPG StarPoints (SPs) that can be converted and used for hotel stay via SPG. There is a $599 conversion fee discussed in the OM that is used for Voluntary Resorts to buy into the SVN system - this automatically occurs with a Mandatory resort. All you pay is the yearly SVN fee (~$114 for HI) .

They are mistaken (not a surprise) - there is no fee available to buy into the ability to a SO-SP conversion - an 'benefit' of dubious value at WKORV
