I had my VSN owners update today, and I want to check what the salesperson told me about converting Vistana Star Options to Marriott Club Points.

1. I understand that as a Vistana owner, I can convert my Star Options into Marriott Club Points that work in the new Abound program. Then I can access the inventory in the Abound pool to make reservations at Marriott properties. I was told that if I became a Marriott Vacation Club owner (on top of VSN), I could convert my Star Options to Marriott Club Points in my Marriott account that work across the Marriott system (rather than just what is in Abound). Is this accurate? Is there an advantage to VSN owners who also have a Marriott account?

2. If that is true, what is the most cost-effective way to become a Marriott Club member to get a base of Marriott Club points?

I believe that Abound is the new Marriott program, so no advantage.

No advantage. This is the current pitch from sales, that you won’t really have access to the inventory unless you own tMVC trust points. But in actual practice, the inventory is exactly the same and MVC treats it as one big pool.

They will tell you that when you exchange into Abound, you only have access to inventory from other people who are exchanging into Abound and not to the trust inventory, but that isn’t true.

Just to be clear, you are either converting your week to Club Points or if you own HomeOptions in one of the Flex, you convert those to Club Points. There is no reason to buy Marriott Trust Points. It is all one system, once you convert your VOI to Club Points, they can be used the same as everyone else's Club Points to book Marriott or Vistana within Abound.
