I am going to Frenchman's Cove the end of February. Do I need to rent a car or are the taxi's the best way to go. I never drove on the left side before and hear the drivers are very agressive. Thanks in advance.
Rent the car. Much cheaper and it allows you to exlore. As to driving, just take it slow and think left. Not really that hard to do.
If you reserve an AVIS car to be picked up in town at Cohens Plaza (short cab ride) across from the docks, you avoid the airport charges and save about $75-100. You can drop the car off at the airport when you leave.
I also recommend renting a car. It gives you the freedom to move around at will. Taxis are very expensive on St Thomas and St John. They charge per person each way. There were 4 of us last year and figure we saved somewhere around $700 by renting a car.I drove there last year for the first time and it wasn't bad. You get used to driving on the left fairly quickly. Lots of hills tho, up and down...Just always remember to "Stay Left". I just reserved a Jeep with Discount Car rental for March. We used them last year also. Very friendly.
