St Thomas Grocery Stores?

We head to Frenchman's Cove next weekend and it's time to start preparing for the trip. We usually bring a suitcase of frozen steaks and chicken that we grill at night outside on the gas grills. We buy milk, butter etc in grocery stores on the island. We've been to "The Pueblo" (YUCK!!!!), we've been to the grocery store on the road to Redhook called the Food Center (so-so). Does anyone have any advice for an American style grocery store that they use? We heard about one called the Fruit Bowl but we don'y know where it is and if it is a complete grocery store or just handles fruit and veggies.

We went to Lings and it was very clean and had a pretty good selection.

The Fruit Bowl is just around the corner from Pueblo. Drive past it and just before you get to the light at the top of the hill make a right into the parking lot. It's in the middle of the shopping center. Gourmet Galley is in Havensight in the same part as the Post Office. They've expanded it and it's pretty nice. It's very pricey though. The only other one I know of is in the Tutu Mall. I forget the name but the desk can give you directions. It's the largest one and the prices are decent.

There's also a Cost U Less on the way to the Tutu Mall next to the Home Depot. If you're only going for a week I don't think it would be worth your while. It's like Sam's Club or Costco in the states. You don't need a membership to shop there.

Thanks Jim and thanks Vacationcrazy. We know just where you said that the Fruit Bowl is. Thanks!! I have never heard of Lings. Where is it and is it a normal grocery store?

I know you gave Pueblo a big "YUCK" but honestly it's where we do the bulk of our shopping. We go to Fruit bowl to get the take out salad bar. Pueblo is just like the dirty old A&P my Mom used to shop in when I was a kid. For the basics, bread, milk, sugar etc. it's just fine. The best meat and fish selections are in Food Center by Red Hook. The Tutu Mall food store is good but it's a bit out of the way and not on the way to or from anything except Tillets Center.

The US flag flies over St Thomas so they're all American grocery stores. They're just a little different from the ones in the mainland. I'd say about 30% more different on average.

Also K-Mart at both locations has a pretty good selection of dry goods and basic dairy items.

Once you adjust to the fact that you are not on the mainland, Pueblos isn't that bad. We carry a lot a staples( need very few clothes). We like the Pueblos nearer the airport as they seem to have a better selection of meats and fresh veggies. Food is expensive and grocery stores are not the same, but you are on St.Thomas. I'll travel for you and let you shop in the grocery stores here :D .
