Can anyone tell me where the best place to rent nice beach chairs (Tommy Bahama type preferably) to haul in the jeep to explore St. John beaches? Thanks!

In a TripAdvisor thread, someone mentioned that "Just Beach" in Mongoose Junction may rent beach chairs, but that thread is dated 2011. Rental rate was quoted as $35/week. In the same thread, the person said that O'Connor Car Rental rents them for $60/week. If they do, they don't mention this on their website.

Another person said that the hardware store above Starfish Market sold them for ~$70.

Honestly, I've never seen chair rentals anywhere on St. John, and it's something that I'd definitely be interested in. With all those beautiful beaches, where is the entrepreneur spirit on St. John?

FYI, Trunk Bay rents them by the day for a pretty reasonable rate. You also have to put down a $20 deposit, which you forfeit if you didn't return it by 3pm. Have no idea what they'd do if you didn't return it until, say, the last day...

Just rented Tommy Bahamma beach chairs from O'Connors when I picked up our Jeep in November. Don't recall the price since they added it to the car rental but I recall it being reasonable for the Islands.
I think we also saw them at Just Beach when I was there to pick up some snorkel gear.

There is a new rental place next door to St John Spice (in Cruz Bay by ferry dock) - not sure type of chair they rent, but cost is $45/week ($10/day).
They also rent Snorkel Gear - full set ($45/week), fins or mask ($25/week), GoPros ($150/week), Coolers ($40/week), Umbrella ($30/week), Spring Floats ($30/week), Speakers ($50/week), Boogie Boards ($25/week), and Kid Toys ($25/week). They also have daily prices - these were taken from photo of the store's chalkboard in June 2015.

Also - I hear you can rent at Trunk Bay concessions. I have seen these chairs (not TB).

I love having a TB chair in Maui, but for St John I am okay with lighter weight chairs since there are often cases where I have to carry them moderate distances (e.g. Salt Pond Beach). So - okay with a beater chair.

Importantly - for me - is having a beach umbrella (esp in June). Helps get away from shade given by vegetation (where mosquitoes hang out during day time). I bought a beach umbrella at Cost-U-Less on StT ($30?) - used it for 2 weeks (also used on balcony since ours is in sun now) - and then gave it away to neighbor checking in.

Maho?

Kiddel Bay, chairs great for those beautiful but cobblestone beaches. Me in shade, Robins chair in sun...
Note: WKORV bag, WSJ soft-side cooler, WSJ pool towels, Beach Bar coozies with SN ale in cans, chairs from WSJ FreeCycle, and Umbrella from Cost-U-Less with umbrella tie-down (as discovered on TUG)

one of us is aging better... Chasing down umbrella (thus the tie-down)
speaking of hot... those cobblestones are HOT even with flip-flops

Thanks for the tips about the mosquitoes. wouldn't have thought about it.

Does anyone of the St John Tugger do the "leave for the next TUGGER" with their chairs and umbrellas like the TUGGERS do in maui?

Buy rather than Rent?

If my memory serves me correctly, it's almost as cheap...and perhaps cheaper...to buy a chair than to rent one for a week. I did check this out once, but then found one for free in the little exchange building near the pool villas.

Could someone please leave a chair or two there near the end of September?

Added captions to photos above.

Hi Bill - There is a FreeCycle for VGV guests only (supposedly). It has had its ups/downs, but I have always had great success (beach chairs...) - probably because I go at times when people are getting ready to check out and we drive by FreeCycle building going up/down to our building (34), and often stop to check out (too Robin's dismay until I find something useful...). We leave good stuff in FreeCycle every year. It is located on the corner of road leading to 3Bd pool villas.

oh yeah... I have crappy video of FreeCycle on YouTube (blujahz; search FreeCycle) taking during its 1st year.

Found it -

280 views - wow! ;)

btw - plenty of WSJ STJ on my channel - hadn't looked for a while... some have lots of views
