I activated my damaged iphone warranty with Square Trade. Waited 2 days for the replacement which is fine. Was required to be home all day to sign for it when fedex delivered it. Yea got replacement phone! Great! Transfer all info into new replacement. Then call Verizon to activate the new phone from Square Trade. IT CAN'T BE ACTIVATE BECAUSE THEY SHIPPED ME A STOLEN PHONE!! BOO HISS SQUARE TRADE!! I have all of my electronics insured with them. The replacement stolen phone has caused me to spend hours on the phone with ST, VERIZON,APPLE, THEN TIME TO PACK UP AND TAKE IT TI SHIP BACK TO ST BY FEDEX.
NOT VERY IMPRESSED WITH SQUARE TRADE!

Please let us know the final results. Good luck.

Interesting.
Don't know how the US database works but it should be on the imie number.
It could also be a typo on the database.

Squaretrade has a very good reputation. I would expect this situation to be an exception, and one which could affect occur with any service. In past years the verification of stolen phones in particular has been limited at best, and mostly non-existent. It's only lately that there is a database at all of stolen phones and the various providers check it (I believe the government had to step in and require this, IIRC). When my phone was stolen a few years ago I contacted AT&T (my provider) to alert if the phone is registered and was told they wouldn't permit it...great. Then I contacted T-Mobile, since my phone would work on their network, and they didn't even have a process to track such stolen phones (at the time there were many comments about stolen phones being used on the other provider, or simply taken out of the country).

It's a good thing there is a stolen phone database now, and I'm glad they use it. The OP should be pleased with this as well, though obviously unhappy with the loss of time in replacing their phone etc.

Yes, the "imei" number confirmed it was a stolen or lost phone. Square trade "overnighted" me a check to replace my phone.

I am very happy for your final come.

Does that mean the insurance is not for cash but rather "repaired" merchandise??

"Refurbished" merchandise ... I misplaced my cell phone a couple of months ago. And I had the "insurance". Fun and games - I was in a rotten mood for a good 2 weeks. The replacement phone is almost the same - except I can not talk on it without disconnecting the call & has a slightly different look - I live on speaker phone or headset at home. Have 11 months left on my contract - now down to 9 months. And this is my primary cell phone (I have a throw away flip for drive by ads, a family $100/1 year QVC phone and this Verizon "smart" phone).

And the insurance is not for any accessories like your added memory, screen protector and memory chip -- all brought on the exact same invoice as the phone & insurance. I did get some "case" which hooks onto the waist band and is just about impossible to remove the phone from while it is ringing without disconnecting it (not the hard shell I had brought with the phone). Ok, IT is impossible to not disconnect the inbound call.

Now, I am back in my rotten mood ... I will NOT buy insurance again ... the insurance cost did not COVER all the costs AND what was covered, I had paid for in about 10 months of premiums.

Check to see if YOUR replacement phone has insurance - I think it is USE once and done.

I've had many claims over the years... Five, I think, ranging from damaged screens to lost and stolen phones, and I have never, ever had a problem. The refurbished phones I've received have all worked perfectly. The coverage can add up, but I appreciate the service and convenience.

vacationhopeful, if your replacement phone doesn't work properly, let them know and they'll exchange it. Memory cards, screen savers, and cases are cheap compared to the full replacement cost of the phone. But most important to remember is 1) that the premium charged is based on replacing the phone, and 2) extras are undocumentable, otherwise every lost phone would have a 256G micro SD card in it. I'm sorry you lost your phone, but the insurance paid what you contracted for.

Thanks for the info ... I had brought all the extras on the same invoice as the original -- again, as I was told at the purchase time ALL those items would be included under the insurance.

The issue is as the PHONE RINGS, I try to get it out of the case. But the motion/touch tends to hangs up on the caller. Plus, when I do get to talk to another person, my cheek touches the screen as I talk - that touch hangs up the caller, too. That is why I have been talking in speaker mode (and Bluetooth at home). It might be a sensitivity setting, but I don't have a teenager or 20-something to correct it. And going to the Verizon Store is a 30 minute line wait at the Mall (not a regular haunt, at all). 8 more months of THAT contract - am just waiting it out.
