What have you read or heard about them please?

I thought I heard they were going away and I was hoping, but not so far.

Who wants to maybe have to move midstay?
Who wants to hassle with getting back housekeeping credits (non VIP)?
Who wants to have two transaction fees for a single stay?
Who wants to worry about only getting part of a stay upgraded (VIP)?

Don't see how split ressies do anything to enhance the Wyndham experience.

As long as all nights are available when you make your reservation. You won't have a split reservation.
A couple of exceptions.
You want more than 14 consecutive nights.
You want to add nights to the reservation you already have. Because your afraid of losing your reservation by canceling and make 1 longer reservation.

Some VIPs are thinking of doing split reservations for the sole purpose of a better chance of upgrades

My understanding is you will no longer see split reservations.

The new system is supposed to join the nights so you don't need to book as a split OR... you'll book it as 2 reservations. Which is essentially what a split reservation was (2 reservations). Once booked each reservation really stood on it's own, it just saved you a guest confirmation if you put the guest name on at the time of booking.

Are you seeing new reservations booking as splits in the new system? Or do you see your existing "splits". Existing reservations will stay as they are - 2 reservations, I guess you could call them splits. I would assume treat existing ones the way you would have before - call and ask the resort to keep you in the room, call and ask for reimbursement of your housekeeping credits, etc.

Also read a post that the new system wasn't joining nights anyways - but that may be because the inventory isn't going back into the system. Hard to figure what if anything is working. Someone saw one night out there, cancelled a 2 night reservation so they could pick up all 3 (presuming the system would join the 3 nights). But they never say the 2 nights come back. Since the inventory doesn't come back, really can't tell how the system will work (but my money is that it won't work correctly :)).

I have split reservation for next Feb. that stayed split after the change. I'm just not trusting this system and will hang on for awhile and see. I wish, if splits are gone, they had just joined those in my account. I have 4 reservations for 2 weeks next Feb. Just had 2 reservations for a 3 night stay at Lake Marion. All from before the change. I had thought I heard splits were going away.

If it was a split reservation before the change that indicates the reservation was in two different units and two separate reservations so it wouldn't have changed with the new system. In the new system all nights booked in one reservation are in the same unit.

I'm pretty sure they're going (have gone) away, but they don't (currently) have any process in place to mend previously split reservations. With the new nightly booking system there also doesn't seem to be any reason they couldn't develop a way to add or drop an available night(s) from an existing reservation without needing to cancel and rebook the entire thing, but that's also not a process they've put in place.

For the OP: what has gone away is the "Split" reservation when you make the initial booking. In the new system you can make a Thursday to Monday reservation and it will be just one reservation. In the old system, that would always be a split reservation (because the nights came from 2 different weeks).

But split reservations have not gone away from the sense of if you have the same check in and check out date at the same resort, it doesn't automagically "join" the reservations for you and refund RT and HK, etc. This could happen because you'd booked in the old system, or you added nights to an existing stay, etc.

Yes, it was made before the changeover. I wanted the first week of February in Ocean Walk. When I made the reservation at 10 months, the only one bedroom was this split reservation. I was worried about cancelling it and rebooking without the split, but was surprised today to find lots of availability. Cost me a reservation transaction, but now, if there is one, I can get the automatic upgrade. Glad to get that sorted. Wonder where all these available units were before. The website worked very well for my transaction.

Sounds like you did the safest thing you could, and got what you wanted, good for you. If you have the points, I wouldn't cancel the original reservations just yet. Especially if you saw lots of availability when there were none before. I'd hold on to both ressies for awhile, if you can.
