The way things are going both these airlines could end up in bankruptcy by the end of the year. Jet Blue was going to pay share holders of spirit $33 a share it is now down to $6. The court may have done Jet Blue a favor although I could swear there was a clause to give Spirit shareholders money if the deal did not go through. I hope they both pull through as we need the competition but the court ruling may have the opposite of the intended effect.

Airline mergers have not been kind to consumers, either on fares or ff programs. I long for the days I could fly NW or CO or the days when AA was still really AA and not taken over by US. Mergers downgrading ff programs actually started with the merger of Air France and KLM where the new Flying Blue ff program was a pale shadow of the preceding Frequence Plus and Flying Dutchman, both of which had been great ff programs. All the airline mergers on this side of the pond also saw ff programs degraded.
