I have seen various posts regarding a baggage charge that Spirit Airline charges their passengers. I have not seen much detail on TUG or on Spirit's site.

I'm looking to book a Spirit flight from LGA to MYR for June. When I go to the site to book, there is no mention of baggage charges. Can someone explain? Is the charge only for certain flights? Thanks.

BT,

In the November/December 2007 issue of Endless Vacation magazine
their was an article on Budget Airlines. Spirit Airlines was on the list and it mentioned that Spirit now has a policy that checked luggage now costs passengers $5 to $10 per bag for the first two bags, and a hefty $100 for the third.

and for a more definitive info see this link http://www.spiritair.com/welcome.aspx?pg=policies

We just flew Spirit Air from Boston to Myrtle Beach. If you wanted to check bags it is $5.00 each way if you book that option online. You were allowed 2 extra bags pp. At the airport the cost is double/ $10 per bag. We opted to do this flying back only and put totes in our carryon luggage in cse we bought things that did not fit in our carryon luggage. You never know what you'll buy on vacation.

They also sell water, yes water, and other beverages and snacks on the flight. Range is $2 to $5. Water and pretzels are not free.

When you book the flight one of the pages tells you about the baggage charges so you can add it then.

Do not book seats as I did in the row in front of the emergency exit. It has the narrowest space and the seats do not recline. I never thought of this before and luckily we could change our seats on the plane. I was getting very claustrophobic after just 20 minutes and I am not a big person. If you can book row 3 or 4 which is the first row after the Big Seats that had lots of leg room.

If you pay for your checked bags online, be certain that you print out the receipt that shows you've paid for your bags. In Provo, I saw several people being required to pay again for their checked bags. They were told that the "system" didn't include their baggage payment information. We had receipts with us and didn't have to pay again.

This happened to me. I had my receipt with me showing I had paid, so it wasn't a problem. It appears this is a regular occurence!

Going forward good to know. I had my receipt but did not buy enough to warrant checking a bag.
