Hi Gang,

Google News is pulling up all sorts of juicy Starwood items today. For example, lookie at this deal SPG has in store for us. According to this story, registration starts on April 17th for stays between May 1 and July 31, 2009.

Of course, the flyertalkers have already scooped us TUGGERS on this story. Boy, they're good.

This is amazing. My son lives in DC and we have spent a number of nights at the Park Hyatt there in the single most extraordinary suite I have ever seen. Hyatt had a similar promotion. We already had one paid night so I booked a room at a local Hyatt for $80 (checked in but didn't stay). It got me a free night at the Park Hyatt which was worth well over $300.

So as I see it, you can book two stays in a four points and redeem it for a free weekend night at the St. Regis in NY! Okay guys - let's get to work!

Time to register!!!!!

You're now registered to earn one Free Weekend Night Award with every two stays through July 31, 2009.

Earn and redeem at more than 875 participating properties across all nine SPG® brands, including Westin®, St. Regis®, Sheraton®, W® and more.
Redeem Awards any Friday, Saturday or Sunday night through the end of September 2009 without blackouts.
The number of Free Night Awards you can earn is unlimited, and earned Awards can be combined.

How to redeem your Awards:
Free Night Awards will be automatically credited to your SPG account three to five days after each second stay posts. To redeem Free Weekend Night Awards, simply call toll-free 866-539-0059 from the U.S. or Canada, or contact the Customer Contact Center in your region and mention Award ID 9FWFN.

Any SPG® member may register at SPG.com/freeweekends. Non-members may join the program and register simultaneously, also at SPG.com/freeweekends.

Is there a limit to the number of Free Weekend Night Awards a member can earn?
No. Awards are unlimited and will be earned for every two (2) qualifying stays at more than 890 SPG participating properties across nine (9) hotel brands. A list of Starwood hotels that do not participate in SPG can be found in section 5.1 of the SPG Terms and Conditions at SPG.com/T&C.

How soon will Free Weekend Night Awards show up in an account?
Free Weekend Night Awards will credit to a member's account within 3–5 days after the second eligible stay posts to the member's Starwood Preferred Guest account.

How do I redeem a Free Weekend Night Award?
To redeem a Free Weekend Night Award, Preferred Guest members in the U.S. or Canada should call 866-539-0059. Elite members should call their dedicated Gold or Platinum customer service lines. Members residing outside the U.S. and Canada should contact the SPG Customer Contact Center for your region; Advance reservations are required, and all members should ask for Award ID 9FWFN.

Is there an expiration date for the Free Weekend Night Award?
Yes. The Free Weekend Night Award can be used through September 27, 2009.

Where and when can I use a Free Weekend Night Award?
A Free Weekend Night Award is redeemable for a single or double occupancy standard room for Friday, Saturday or Sunday night at more than 875 Category 1–6 participating SPG hotels or resorts. A list of Starwood hotels that do not participate in SPG can be found in section 5.1 of the SPG Terms and Conditions at SPG.com/T&C. There are no blackout dates or capacity controls, but stays are subject to room availability. Free Weekend Night Awards cannot be used at the following Category 7 properties:

The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort, Nayarit, Mexico
Sunset Key Guest Cottages, A Westin Resort, Key West, Florida, USA
The St. Regis New York, New York, USA
Santa Marina Resort & Villas, Mykonos, Greece
Mystique, Santorini, Greece
Hotel Cala di Volpe, Costa Smeralda, Porto Cervo, Italy
Cervo Hotel, Costa Smeralda Resort, Porto Cervo, Italy
Hotel Pitrizza, Costa Smeralda, Porto Cervo, Italy
Hotel Romazzino, Costa Smeralda, Porto Cervo, Italy
Hotel Gritti Palace, Venice, Italy
The St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort, Spain
The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort, French Polynesia
Le Méridien Bora Bora, French Polynesia
The St. Regis Bali Resort, Indonesia
W Retreat & Spa – Maldives

Additionally, four Category 4 through 6 properties, The Resort at Singer Island, Pine Cliff Residences, Sheraton Vistana Villages International Drive, and Sheraton Vistana Resort Lake Buena Vista, are all-suite properties and do not have standard rooms; therefore, a Free Weekend Night Award cannot be redeemed at these locations.

Is a Free Weekend Night Award valid for existing reservations?
Free Weekend Night Awards may not be automatically used in place of an existing paid or other Award reservation. Members may cancel an existing reservation and attempt to rebook the same stay in order to use a Free Weekend Night Award, but they risk losing availability, and cancellation fees could apply.

I have an existing reservation. Can that count toward earning a Free Weekend Night Award?
Yes, as long as the member is registered for the promotion, the rate is a Starpoints eligible room rate during the promotion earning dates, and the stay posts to the member's account prior to the promotion ending.

If I check in before May 1 or check out after July 31, do I still earn credit for that stay?
As long as one (1) eligible night occurs during the eligibility earning window (May 1–July 31), a member would earn a credit for that stay toward a Free Weekend Night Award.

If I earn more than one Free Weekend Night Award, can I use them on consecutive dates under one reservation? Can I use them for separate stays on different weekends?
Yes. Once a member has earned two or three Free Weekend Night Awards, he or she can redeem them separately on different weekends or consecutively for an entire weekend.

Can I use my Free Weekend Night Award as part of a longer stay that has paid nights?
Yes. Free Weekend Night Awards can be used alone or as part of a longer stay.

Can I use my Free Weekend Night Award as part of a longer stay that has other free nights redeemed?
Yes.

Can I use Starpoints® to upgrade my Free Weekend Night Award to a better room?
A member may check on the availability of an upgrade at the hotel by using Instant Upgrade Awards. Upgrades on Free Weekend Night Awards cannot, however, be done online nor through customer service ahead of the reservation.

Do Free Weekend Night Awards combined with other free nights qualify me for 5th night free redemptions?
No, they do not.

Can I gift my Free Weekend Night Award?
Awards are not transferrable and may not be given as a gift.

What would happen if I make a reservation using my Free Weekend Night Award and then cancel it? Do I lose it?
No. As long as you cancel your stay in accordance with the hotel's cancellation policy and additional weekends remain in the redemption period (May 8–September 27, 2009), you may use your Award on a subsequent weekend up to and including September 27, 2009.

Do I earn Starpoints for Free Weekend Night Awards?
Starpoints may still be earned on all eligible incidental charges when staying on Free Weekend Night Awards.

Do I earn stay credit for a Free Weekend Night Award?
Stay credit is only earned on eligible room rates. A Free Weekend Night Award room rate is not eligible; however, if you have additional nights that are at eligible room rates, you will earn a stay credit.

What if I don't use some or all of my Free Weekend Night Awards by September 27, 2009?
Members forfeit all unused Awards.

Hey,

Do timeshare "stays" count for this promo? If so, do we need to do anything? Like, for some of the Marriott promos you can get a "stay" credit if you make sure to charge something to your room...what's the story with SPG?

ON that same note. do stays for a promo for their timeshares count? hmmm....

No, and No. Timeshare stays do not count as nights for SPG credit. The amount you spend on food, etc. does earn Starpoints just like Starwood hotels, however. The exception to this is HRA where you don't earn Starpoints, nor bonus Starpoints using a Starwood Amex.

Can't use it at the St Regis NY, because its a cat 7 property. One thing that makes this remarkable compared to past similar properties, however, is that they allowed cat 6. That includes everything in New York (Ws, westin) except the St Regis, the St Regis San Francisco, and a lot of other great hotels throughout the world.

I recently stayed in the Hotel Imperial (category 6) on a mistake rate I found through flyertalk, and getting a free night there (its in Vienna, Austria) is something I'd value pretty highly.

Book online or call SPG

What is the best way to book this type of reservation to recieve the Free Weekend Night? Can I book the lowest rate online and get the credit? About a month ago I booked something online (using StarPoints) and I had to call SPG about a question I had on the reservation and they said I should have called and booked the reservation as that is the best way to book anything. We just returned from a trip to Hawaii and got great upgrades. I called in both reservations that I made using Starpoints for one reservation (in Oahu) and StarPoints/Cash (Big Island) for the other which worked out very well. Can others give me their experiences on how you book your hotel reservations and what you find works best for you? Thanks!

You'll need to call SPG to reserve the room. One way to check to see if a room is available (only the lowest cagtegory room is eligible for this award) is to go online. If you can book with Cash & Points or Redeem Starpoints, than a room is available. If you can only book with Book Our Best Rate, you're out of luck.
