Special Visitor to Wilcox Hospital in Lihue

another true horse story

My Dad was making rounds in Walter Reed Hospital during WWII. He visited a soldier who had a very severe allergic episode. Dad asked him if he'd ever had anything like it before and, if so, what caused it. The soldier said that he was allergic to horses and that's what caused it this time, too. My Dad said that a horse couldn't have been in Walter Reed Hospital. The soldier told him, indeed, there had been one in there. Roy Rogers had brought Trigger in to visit all the vets! They put some kind of rubber shoes on him.

When my male Shih Tzu, Bo Shoi Ming, was younger we use to visit nursing homes.

Bo never met anyone he didn't like.

On our very first visit an elderly woman was in her bed and motioned for me to put Bo on her bed. She started talking to him and me and asked all about him and said please visit me again.

I turned around and there was the head nurse, all 230# of her, with her hands on her hips.

She motioned me to come outside. I figured I'd blown it big time. She started weeping, hugging me, and said that woman hasn't spoken a word in 6 months. Please, please come back as often as possible. We did.

Bo is going on 14 and has heart problems with a leaky mitral valve but still hasn't met a person he didn't like.

We have a very dear friend at Wilcox on the nursing floor wing. I bet she got a kick out of the horse and I'm sure it brightened her day too.:D

Great story about your dog and the elderly patient. I hope he does well for a long time.
