We bought at the Westin Lagunamar just before the Covid lockdown from Canada started. I am FINALLY able to go! We only ever did AI so buying groceries while in Cancun is new to me. I will be there for 2 weeks so I will need a fair amount of food. I have a few questions.
I read in a post that Soriana's doesn't have bags - do I just bring my own and then they use them to deliver the food? What is the current delivery charge? Rough idea what a taxi from Lagunamar to that mall will cost?
Can you local bus it to Costco? Do they offer delivery? I know it is much farther from the resort - do you think it is worthwhile?
Should I consider another supermarket?

Thanks in advance for your help - so excited to travel again!

I am hoping someone gets back with you. I no idea but I am sure someone will know the answers. I am bumping this one to the top.

We stayed at Lagunamar for 12 nights back in 2018 and only shopped at Soriana. It doesn't have the best selection of groceries in the Hotel Zone. There is a Súper Chedraui Selecto at the north end of the Hotel Zone that is said to be much better and also delivers. That said, we didn't have an issue getting what we needed. They have plenty of fresh produce and many more local items are incredibly cheap. I bought some chorizo and corn tortillas for only a few dollars to make my own tacos. Buy some avocados, limes and other ingredients for homemade guacamole. If you are looking for a great meat selection, you might want to go somewhere else and Costco would probably provide more like what you would find in the US as far as fresh meat.

Lack of grocery bags may not be an issue. They will just load up all your groceries into their box on the motorcycle they use for deliveries and you can unload them into a tub provided by bell services. They will help you get the groceries back to your villa. You will need to round them up though because the bell person will be up at the main entrance and they deliver the groceries to the ground level entrance. IIRC, delivery was 35 peso when we were there. Tell them you want it delivered before they start ringing you up. I walked to Soriana and back and still beat the delivery driver back. You can also take the bus both ways if you don't want to walk.

How about a call/email to the concierge at the resort? I'm sure it comes up a lot. FWIW, I really like Soriana supermarkets in Mexico. You might consider just tucking some disposable grocery bags in your suitcase. I DO know that the grocery baggers are not paid- they work for tips, so give them a few pesos for their work. To balance that, taxi drivers are not tipped, but always settle on a price before you commit to one.

I will share that we were in Cancun a several years ago and took a bus to Walmart. It is just a few blocks from Costco. (note: there is also a Sams Club right next to Walmart). We were really disappointed in the selection and hated the way they displayed the meat out uncovered in the aisles. Left the store with almost nothing...
We were also there last year and went to the Soriana market inside the mall. It is very convenient to get to and has most things you will need. Overall, a nice market.
However, I would say for your 2 week trip, you should proceed with making your 1 trip to Costco. You can purchase your meats and other items. This will ensure known selection and good pricing. Then, just go to Soriana for things you run out of or could not get at Costco.

I also suggest just taking the bus to Costco (easy and cheap), then take a taxi with your groceries to get home. This is the easiest compromise.

Thanks for the help - I have quite a few pesos in smaller denomination to tip for occasions such as this.

We caught the bus from Lagunamar to the Super Chedraui. Was going to cab back, but with 3 of us with backpacks and shopping bags was able to bus back.

The bus drivers make change if you don't have exact fare. It took us a couple of trips to realize that, DOH!

We usually go to costco on our way from airport to hotel. Cost is around $30 extra depending on which company you are using.
You can also try the corner shop app for delivering.(can order from any of the 3 grocery stores) The selecto chedraui is an easy bus ride from the resort and has much better selection than soriana.

We usually go to Soriana or Chedraui select, choice what we need and pay for delivery, last time my wife bought on line at Chedraui and they delivered to Laguna Mar, very easy. The bell boy could take it to the room.

I shop regularly at Soriana at the Kukulcan Plaza. My solution is to bring a backpack. It carries my computer and other stuff down (counts as a personal item, not a carry-on), and it's then available to lug groceries back from either Soriana or Chedraui Selecto. I have seen others use their wheeled carry-on bags to lug stuff back from Soriana. It's about a 12-minute hike, with some bumps and steps for those with wheelies.
I also bring a foldable travel bag with my backpack. I use that for light-weight overflow items, such as bread, cereal, totopos, and crackers.
There is also a La Europea located about half way to Soriana on the other side of the street. Excellent wine and liquor selection at moderate prices, as well a cheeses and specialty snacks.
We will be there next week for 11 nights, and then again in January for 19 nights. We may see you.
Oh...and the concierge staff at Lagunamar is outstanding, the best we have seen anywhere. Don't hesitate to ask them for help and recommendations. We are especially fond of Emma Bohigas, but they are all good...and helpful.

Thank you so much for the tips (esp. the wine & liquor :) ) I arrive Nov 27 for 13 nights. Perhaps we will bump into each other!

Hi! We are currently at the Lagunamar and we typically shop at Soriana. The first time we went in person, and you can pay a $USD 2 delivery fee (we spent about 110 USD in groceries). They deliver to the hotel - you just need to come down to the delivery area (right by the elevator) to retrieve the groceries. The second time i placed an order using their whatsapp number which is +529983600022.
The bus fare is 12 pesos per person, and if you cab it it's 15 USD - which is insanely expensive for overall Mexico but I guess that is the cost of staying in the zona hotelera. I hope you have a fabulous stay!

Costco and I think Mega Soriana are next to each other kind of sharing the same parking lot. We went to both. We had a car so I'm not sure what a taxi cost. We saw an uber in Cancun but it looked like the taxis were blocking the uber with passengers and I was told uber wasn't allowed on resort property.

Yes Ubers are not allowed in the zona hotelera because otherwise taxis would not be able to rip off American tourists lol. I forgot to mention the Soriana i mentioned above is the one in the Kukulcan mall. I hope it helps!

We walked down to Soriana when we were at Lagunamar last year. Plenty of selection for our needs and decent pricing for where it is. We bought reusable canvas bags, which are now our "timeshare travel" shopping bags and we take them whenever we travel so the 50 pesos or whatever we paid for them was worth it. The stronger bags also help when you're walking the half mile back to WLR.
