Granted Oceana Palms parking garage isn’t our favorite, but this past week we had the inconvenience of navigating around people who decided parking their cars on the ramps rather than in parking spaces was just fine.

Normally the only mild annoyances I encounter are guests who leave luggage carts in the hall rather than returning them, placing trash outside their door rather than taking it to the trash chute, complaining loudly about unit location to the front desk, chair hogs, or allowing children to run wild unsupervised.

I guess we’ve progressed to parking wherever the heck we want too

My favorite annoyance with travel & cars:

People who refuse to use cell phone lots at airports and park along side the roadway (on the shoulder) leading into the airport.

This is a “thing” at MDW & ORD - perhaps it’s just a Chicago phenomenon?

Makes me insane that law enforcement isn’t out there ticketing.

...the ever present problem of other people......
Not really a problem so much as an annoyance. It’s only a problem when someone hits them as they attempt to turn the corner. Inconsideration towards other guests always amazes me.

Not just Chicago. Denver has the same issue.

I have noticed this at Oceana Palms a few times in the past too. Is it possible that all the spots were full by the time those people returned to the resort? By the time you got back to your car others had left making it look like there are empty spaces?

I also find it annoying that there are usually some number of spaces being taken up for storage. Usually on the top level.

Happens at DIA(Denver) too

I looks like we may have consensus that Denver could be worse than Chicago.

I think most airports have cellphone lots. Parking on the approach roads to both terminals at Toronto (YYZ) was really bad for a while and there were accidents many times a day from folks pulling out of their 'parking' spot into the path of another vehicle. The police finally cracked down a couple of years ago and now we always see least one police car patrolling the roads to the terminals every time we are there. We have used the cellphone parking lots at MCO a few times (there is one for each terminal) and they are nice, with a gas station/convenience store/coffee shop and washrooms right next to the parking area. They even have free pubic Wi-Fi in those lots.

Yes, the spots were full in that garage. But the appropriate thing to do is go to the front desk and tell them. They have security come and either find or create space for them.

The keys work for both garages. Inconvenient to say the least to park in the other garage or even the outside spaces but better than creating a hazard.

At first I ignored it. I thought, incorrectly, that the drivers would either move them as the garage emptied out or security would find the owners and figure something out. Neither happened. After the better part of a day I mentioned it to the front desk, which called security and then they got it right away. When checking out we used one of the key drop boxes. It was stuffed past full. I called from the airport to let them know we had check out and that they needed to have someone empty that box. Again she said she’d notify resort security to empty it. I don’t know security to as responsible for checking that box.

My opinion of resort security at Oceana Palms isn’t at its highest right now. Seems they’re either short staffed or they’re not making rounds like they need to.

For the record, this wasn’t the first time. Prior to me stopping by the front desk I just ignored it. The fact it was happening regularly began to bother me so I felt the resort needed reminding that guests watch this sort of thing. It’s had an effect on my opinion.

At 81 cents per point that week in our view cost around $4,200. I expect better.

Yikes at the MF for that week!
$4200 isn't the maintenance fee for an Oceana Palms week. That is the fees that a Trust Points owner would use if booking using Trust Points. The weeks based maintenance fee is only $2,601.54

And this makes me a little depressed about the Abound points program

Maybe we need an "A HOLE" sticky, to just add each of all these anti-social narcissistic behavior posts. They now seem to be becoming the norm as opposed to the exception.

I fear you are correct

This is an excellent example of why the ongoing costs of using resale weeks are usually far better (lower) than a week reserved with points. Also, one likely has a far better chance of marketing a week when it comes time to sell rather than trying to find a buyer for points on the resale market.

Points users who avoid booking on a Friday and Saturday night will use fewer points and can utilize some savings on their overall expense.

The main reason we use points is to call the shots on unit view/location rather than leave it up to chance. Because of that we made peace with over paying vs a weeks exchange. Plus we can now utilize weekdays like Tuesday to check in, which can be a big plus when booking flights. I got two RT tickets in an exit row to Washington DC for a total of 36,000 FF miles by flying on Tuesday.
