This question was submitted to Walt Mossberg at 'All Things Digital'

"Any suggestions about simple ways to delete photos from an iPad? There's no trash-can icon available when operating in the photo function."

Walt's answer: "It's actually very easy, though not obvious. You just open the standard Photos app, press Edit in the upper right corner, select the photo or photos you want to delete (a check mark will appear on the selected images) and then select the red "Delete" button at the upper left."

I don't own an iPad and I don't know if this is a common issue for iPad owners. However, I thought that perhaps this information might be helpful to some iPad newbies here in Tugland.

This is a standard interface design for control in the Apple designed apps. But, I'm sure lots of people don't know about it since many don't even try to delete pics (or videos, music, etc).

I did figure out how to delete photos on my iPad a while back...certainly wasn't a user friendly process until taught.

Moving the pictures around into different albums is terrible...I must be missing something but when I see a pic online I want to save it, the iPad saves it to only one album and I can't figure out how to set up new albums and move them around.

Video deletion is also a problem for me, probably because of the sync setup with my laptop...but again Apple isn't very user friendly.

This is what I do. iPad saves your photos to Camera Roll and Photos. Along the top of the photo app you will see: photos photo stream albums events faces places.
Click on Albums. Top left hand corner you will see a +, click on that, you'll see a small window pop up where you create and name a New Album, then save.
You can then click on that new album, click Edit in the upper right hand corner, click on Add photos. This will take you to all your photos, then just click on the photos you want for that album, click done and they will appear in your new album.
