Has anyone seen the movie? I just saw an ad that said it's now playing. I am thinking of taking my DD and 2 of her friends to see it tomrrow as part of DD's 8th birthday party.

BUT...while I love Shrek, it seemed to me that the second movie was less kid friendly than the first one.... much more blatantly adult oriented.

I don't need parents calling me later on, upset, for taking them to see it!

We just saw it last night. My 9 1/2 year old liked it a lot. It was more in the line of the 2nd movie, where I think a LOT of it was aimed at adults. I think a lot of the humor references went right over the kids' heads more than really being inappropriate for them. For example, at one point Puss N' Boots exclaims "I haven't had a trip like that since college!" and I'm sure there was hardly a kid there that got his real meaning. I'm trying to think if there was anything terribly objectionable as far as being inappropriate, but can't think of anything.
I would think that 8 year olds would have a great time. Younger kids (preschool age) seemed to be very restless in the audience, I think they didn't really get it at all.

I've found "Movie Mom" to be a good source for determining just what exactly is in a movie that myself or other parents might find questionable. In the box at the top of each movie, note that she lists the EXACT things that give a film a particular rating (for example, sexual innuendo, language, violence...). It really helps to make decisions about movies.

Thanks! We are going to give it a try with the three party guests, the b-day girl, and me and hubby....tonight. I figure that they won't get alot of the references (which is fine with me!) and just enojoy the "light show".

What made my DD most unhappy about Shrek 2 was that the fairy godmother wasn't nice, like all the fairy godmothers she's ever known about. I really had to work to explain that one!

I'll check out Movie Mom - thanks for the link!

This one seemed a lot less mean-spirited to me than the second one, and WAY less burp/fart/earwax jokes than the first one (just a few which they seemed to feel were obligatory and threw them in). Of course, I thought it was a lot less funny than the 2nd, but still much better than the first IMHO. It's probably the least offensive of all of them, and has a little take-home-message which is good and seemed to stick with my kids.

The princesses are pretty funny, and the "chicks" have a good powerful part, so the girls will enjoy that! Sleeping Beauty made me laugh.
