Should I go for this cheap Westin Cancun deal with 90min 'Sales talk'?

I know they are going to try to sell me their vacation package. But to stay there now is like less than $300 for 5 days or 4 nights. What are the chances of their high pressure sales tactics get to me (which is me ending up buying?). Is it possible to say no to it all? Westin Cancun Resort

Thanks

Thanks

Expect VERY high pressure. Lots of outright lies. They have answers to ANY objection you may try. They make these offers to appeal to your (and my, and everyone's) desire for a bargain. A 'deal'. Frankly, greed. They make it sound all so friendly. 'Sales talk', but they fail to mention that it happens very early in your stay, so that the legally required rescission (cooling off) period (which may not even get mentioned) will be expired before you can find the instructions and get to a Mexican post office to mail a letter saying you want out.

Personally, I wouldn't go. But that's me. If you should decide to go, get the address to mail a rescission letter- and possibly even write one before you go. Find the nearest PROFECO office. That's the Mexican consumer affairs office that deals with timeshare sales. They can help with a rescission.

Cancun is beautiful and there are lots of great activities, but you don't want your vacation to be tied up trying to undo a $25,000 (or much more) mistake.

I did that a few years ago, it was comparable pressure wise to the WKORV presentation, and much lower pressure that the Sheraton in Orlando. Ultimately, it depends on yourself.

I never had any trouble just saying no, but I am firm by nature, and not susceptible to peer pressure. If that doesn't describe you, I probably wouldn't do it.

$300 is a deal. But $300 plus tens of thousands of lost value after you buy is a terrible deal. Westin is betting you'll buy. If you're not positive you wouldn't, it's a mistake to go, imo.

We have been to many Westin sales presentations and have experienced no outright lies (perhaps a few omissions), and we have never been subject to high pressure (mild to moderate only). The same is true for our experience with Marriott. Vidanta, however, is another story. Their sales pressure can be almost vicious. DRI falls in between the two, but closer to Marriott/Starwood as far as our experience goes. Our one sales experience at Festiva was full of lies.

I suppose in fairness, I probably should have prefaced my comments with "In Mexico, you MAY experience. . . " at ANY resort presentation because their laws and legal system allow it. Westin or Marriott, or Hilton MAY be more 'American' due to their corporate alignment. But I stand by my comment that IF one attends a presentation in Mexico, they should be prepared for more pressure than the term 'sales talk' implies.

I just did the same deal about three weeks as the OP is asking about for $250.

Standard pitch as from Hilton, Marriott but much less "pressure" than other Mexican timeshares. Easy to reject the three levels of "deals". I started the whole session with a flat statement I had zero intention to buy, kept saying no thanks and was out in 90 minutes with 11500 Starpoints.

It's a good price for the stay. You'll likely wind up in a ground level studio but since my lady friend and I were only in the room to sleep, no biggie to me. When I told the TS folks she was just a friend, no requirement for her to attend the pitch so I met her 90 minutes later at the pool.

If it's offered to me again, I'd take it but I'm more or less bulletproof to TS BS. If you've ever bought a car with more stuff on it than you want or need, you might fall for the pitch. OTOH, if you can "just say no", go for it.

Cheers
