Has anyone on here used a broker to buy points. My brother in law bought a Hilton VC I am looking to buy third party now that I rescinded my offer. I definitely don’t want to do thru eBay.

You should become familiar with Dioxide's ROFR data page. www.rofr.net. That will inform you as to what purchase prices are passing Marriott's ROFR and which ones are not. Also, it will tell you if your broker is charging more than the "going rate".

Also, FYI, I bought three timeshares off of eBay. I chose sellers who had an impeccable record - - 100% satisfaction and hundreds if not thousands of transactions. All of my eBay purchases went very smoothly. More recently, I had good luck with Tochoa25 who is a regular and active seller of points on eBay. Surprisingly, my most challenging transaction/closing was through Re/Max and Redweek. If you choose an eBay seller, look for 100% satisfaction ratings or VERY close to that and LOTS of transactions. That doesn't mean that there might not be any problems but IMHO means that if a problem arises, that the seller will fix it to protect their on-line reputation.

I have bought many timeshares on eBay and had little trouble doing them. Some sellers are a bit slow, but other than that if you find what you want and the seller has a good rating, go for it. Just looked over there and there are 59 Marriott properties available right now. As with any timeshare, buy where you want to stay and don't count on using the points to stay elsewhere.

Make sure you fully understand the expensive proposition MVC trust points can be. Even resale they aren't cheap and the maintenance fees are very high. If money is no object, then perhaps points are a great option for the added flexibility. However, if you really want to maximize ownership, then you should also consider purchasing a resale week. Sure, no points but the power of trading through Interval International will get you far more value than an equivalent number of points.

Our enrolled Marriott weeks are worth about 4,000 points but we are able to secure week long exchanges that would often cost between 10,000 and 12,000 Club Points.

+1.

I have 3 MVC weeks and 3000 MVC points and use the weeks to trade in II. They are all enrolled, which means that they can be elected for points. I use the 3000 MVC points for random bookings because they are expensive to use. Sometimes it is such a pain to use before they expire. I also have Vistana ownership which I use for Star Option reservations or deposit into II for trading. Similarly I could elect MVC points but I don't because I get much better value outside of Abound.
