All,

If I book a 6 night reservation at WPORV for June 2016, and end up only needing 5 nights, can I easily cancel the sixth night, and convert it to a 5 night reservation? I don't mind if there is a $29 cancel fee, or something like that, but thinking I should add the extra night now and shorten it once travel plans are finalized.

Please advise and thank you!

Best,

Greg

There is no penalty until closer to check in.

If you can cancel and rebook it can be done online. Otherwise call owner services and 2nd Line can make the change.

Easily? No, not really.

I believe the policy/system limitation is that they can try to cancel it and rebook for 5 nights. If they can (it comes back in their system available for 5 nights), you are good.

If not, and it somehow came available and someone rebooked it before the agent could, you are out of luck.

If not, and it is on hold in the system, you can have Resolution Services try to get it back -- they will likely retrieve the original reservation only and you will not be able to get the 5 night reservation unless greater powers intervene.

This has been my situation with SO reservation cancel and rebooks. Also note, even if you attempt to cancel inside the penalty window and are not successful in getting the shortened reservation, you will be charged the fee. This has happened to me as well -- the system will not let the agent continue with the cancel until the fee is paid. (Again, unless greater powers intervene)

Advice? Tough one ... I'd say it depends how many SOs are the night you are adding on and whether or not it is worth eating a night, versus not having one available. For a June reservation, I'd suggest booking the 6 nights, hoping that you can cancel but knowing that you might have to eat a night.
