I am closing on a resale SVR and I know it can affiliate with both RCI and II. What exchange company is better for SVR to affiliate with?? I know it will have Starwood priority in II but what are other considerations for both???

With RCI you will know exactly how many TPU you get, so it's pretty easy to determine if it's enough to justify depositing with RCI or not. You will have to register the week with RCI, and then call to find out exactly how many TPU you will get, because it's the "blended average" for the whole season, so the deposit calculator on RCI will not be accurate.

For the most part, it depends on where you want to go.

DVC is exclusively with RCI.

The top Starwood and Marriott resorts are not with RCI.

Your other considerations would be what do you want to exchange for and are you already paying for one or the other system or would each be a new separate set up. RCI has a lot more inventory. It has Disney and Hilton. II has Marriott, Starwood, and Hyatt. You are going to get more trading power in general with II with what you have but it doesn't matter how much trading power you have, if II doesn't have anything you want. With RCI you would have to decide if RCI has anything you would want with the trading power you will get. If this is going to be your only RCI deposit and you won't be doing it most years then it is even more of a consideration. If you make regular deposits in RCI you can combine if need be and average type trading power can be averaged out to better when combined with a better than average deposit.

If you are looking at it in more of a getaway/extra vacation value then that also depends on where and when you travel as the inventory is quite different and depending on your needs one may be better than the other.

If you go with RCI, you should get higher total TPUs by splitting the LO as 2 separate deposits. I believe you will then have to pay to recombine the TPUs. Don't you love the nickle and dime? Not.

I was on RCI for years and then switched to II only for the past 7 years or so.

Can it be linked to both RCI and II simultaneously??? Would there be any reason to do so other than for maximum flexibility to get inventory??

You could list your week on memberships with both II and RCI, but you could only deposit a given week with one of them each year. You could wait to deposit (which reduces trading power in II and TPUs in RCI) and use it to "search first" in II, but that would probably not be a very satisfactory strategy.

I have several weeks on the record with both II and RCI, but I usually give them all the RCI. I have one week that is only affiliated with II. That is the only reason I remain an II member.

You can only DEPOSIT it with one exchange company at a time, so it's an unnecessary expense to join both companies at first - that just means you'd being paying one of them the yearly membership fee for no reason.

Which one you want to join first really depends on where you want to GO:

II -
Starwood to Starwood priority
Affiliated with the top Starwood and Marriott Properties
Best choice for top Hawaii Resorts
Discount on Starwood to Starwood exchanges

RCI-
No Starwood to Starwood priority
Affiliated with Disney and Hilton
More online inventory, but some of it lower end
Ability to combine deposits for higher TPU (for better exchange)
Somewhat higher fees
