Does anyone know if there are 1 bedroom units (with full kitchen) at SVR that do not have a balcony/patio? I reserved a 1 bedroom with full kitchen, because in looking at floor plans on the Marriott site, it appeared to me that any room that could be locked off into a 1 bedroom w/full kitchen included a balcony. At check-in this past Saturday, I asked if the unit I was being assigned had a balcony, and I was told no. This surprised me, so I asked for a unit with a balcony. I was told this would be an upgrade, but they eventually said they found me a room with a balcony (actually a patio which was fine). When we entered our room however (Cascades Bldg 4), our "upgrade" was actually a tiny 1 bedroom with a mini kitchen. Of course this didn't sit right with me since I reserved a room with a full kitchen, so I immediately called the desk and within 5 minutes they informed me they assigned me a new room and that my keys were ready to be exchanged. In the end, we were assigned a spacious 2 bedroom in the Fountains section, but I am still curious if there really is such a thing as a 1 bedroom w/ full kitchen, but no balcony (or patio).

I have never been to this property, but looking at the Vistana website and trying to make a pretend reservation, it looks to me like there are two options at SVR for 1BR: 1BR Villa and 1BR Premium Villa. These are available in the Lakes or Cascades sections. In all cases, the 1BR’s are split from a 2BR Lockout unit. So the 1BR Premium Villa includes a balcony and a full kitchen and the 1BR Villa does not include a balcony and only has a kitchenette. The Premium has a higher point cost per stay than the other one. I would have to assume from your OP that the Marriott website does not show the full range of possible floor plans like the Vistana website does. Answering your last question, I do not see where a 1BR with full kitchen but no balcony is an option at SVR.

I have never stayed in the small 1BR unit at SVR, but if it is like SVV then they do have 1BR units with a kitchen and no patio. The kitchens in the small (1BR deluxe) units have everything except an oven; smaller fridge (not mini or bar fridge), two burner cooktop, microwave and dishwasher. These are also the end units in buildings in Lakes and Cascates.

Interestingly though at SVR, II considers both 1BR units to have full kitchens. Over at SVV they indicate that the smaller 1BR only has a limited kitchen.

Marriott.com has three types of Smaller 1BR units listed for Vistana Resort. One of them doesn't list a balcony. It sounds like the first villa you were given was the Smaller 1BR with a Balcony?

Vistana.com 1BR Lakes and Cascades smaller 1BR units pretty much look the same.

I am not exactly sure what you were given for your first unit. Looking at all the Floorplans on Vistana.com, I can not find a 1BR that has a mini kitchen AND a patio.

Thanks for the detailed response! I made my reservation through Armed Forces Vacation Club (AFVC) which I believe is RCI affiliated. On the AFVC site, they list two options for a 1 bdr; one with a "full" kitchen, and one with a "mini" kitchen.

The first unit we were assigned was room 2439 in bldg 4 of Cascades (2 doors down from an end unit door). The inside living area looked like picture 1 of 3 you posted above. The bedroom was aligned with the rest of the unit unlike the floor plan above where the bedroom is offset; the patio opened.off the bedroom. I am thinking they made a mistake in assigning that room to me since that kitchen cannot be considered "full". I do still wonder what I would have been assigned had I not queried about a balcony, since from everything I have learned thus far, all "full" kitchen 1 bdr units ( when differentiated from one with a "mini") do have balconies.

In the end however, they made everything right, and my wife and I have enjoyed our stay here at SVR. We stayed at Marriott Grande Vista back in March, and overall we like it here more. We would like to try SVV next time we are out this way. Thanks again for the response. And oh, we enjoy your videos on youtube!

Thanks for looking! Actually now that I think about it, it may have been the Vistana site I was looking at for the floorplans whereby I came away with the idea that any "full" kitchen unit (compared to one with a "mini") would have a balcony. I am under the belief that my room assignment was an error, but all was corrected to my satisfaction. The 2 bedroom in the Fountains section where we ended up at is nicely appointed and appears to be recently updated.

I think it is how you define 'full' kitchen. AFAIK all of the kitchens in the Cascades 1BR (regular or premium) were actually considered a full kitchen based on the number of appliances. When we last stayed in one, it had a full oven/range, dishwasher fridge and microwave oven. Yes 2 of those appliances were apartment sized, but they were still present so it counted as a full kitchen.

In the Lakes section you only get a small cooktop and no oven in the small 1BR side, so that is considered a kitchenette. That was the only difference AFAIK - no oven in Lakes.

I do see now that the description on vistana.com calls it a kitchenette in Cascades and claims only a cooktop, so it may be changing during more recent renovations. Ours definitely had a range - this was post resort refurbishment. What did your unit have for a cooking appliance - apartment sized range or cooktop only?

I wish I would have noted what it was, but we were only in it for a few minutes before heading back to the front desk to exchange keys. I assume that it wasn't considered a full kitchen since they then placed me in a two bedroom unit.

I just traded to SVR one bedroom. II site it has a full kitchen. The unit code on II site is OBST. Anyone knows what that means?

Best I can tell by pouring through the different 1BR options available to book on Marriott.com is that it is a "1 Bedroom Smaller Villa, 1 King, Sofa bed, Balcony". I am not exactly sure what this is because Marriott.com lists it with 490 square feet. The small side of the 2BR lock offs in Cascades and Lakes don't have balconies and the square footage and description indicates it is not a Premium 1BR. I suspect this might be a dedicated 1BR villa and I think those are only located in Cascades. You might want to try to pull your reservation up on Marriott.com to see the description.

Keep in mind that I think Vistana Resort treats all of the small 1BR (with or without balcony) units the same. So it is possible that you end up in the small side of a 2BR lock off that doesn't have a balcony. I know an owner was told this, even regarding their home resort reservation.
