Sheraton Steamboat Villas--difference between Morningside Villas and the newer villas? Wondering if all are timeshare?

We are currently at this resort, 2 bedroom unit with two bathrooms. The second bedroom is so tiny, tight for our kids. The two grandkids are sleeping on the sofa sleeper just fine, even though the little one is barely two. He didn't like the pack-n-play they provided for him. Apparently it is just not the same as the crib. Morningside villas look bigger in the pictures. Are both sides of the resort timeshare?

I am going to write a review soon. The blender and coffeemaker were filthy, my only complaints. Dishwashers are great and solved both issues. I may buy some vinegar for the coffeemaker.
 
From my understanding when I sold SVO back in 2015 at nearby Westin Riverfront Villas, anything that is not a standard hotel room is definitely a timeshare unit now. The story with Morningside is it was the only timeshare part of the property when they built it as a separate building on the left side of the driveway in the 2000's. However they only did internal finishing on a couple of floors of units before the financial crisis hit in 2008 and SVO shut down unit sales and the corresponding on-site sales office. Everything was sold as deeded weeks and it was notoriously impossible to get in there as a non-owner.

In 2015, SVO decided to finish the remaining units and restart sales with that aim of turning most or all of the entire Steamboat property into timeshare units. Steamboat was not in Flex at that point so I'm guessing many of those new Morningside sales could have been sold mostly as deeded weeks since they were likely finished off long before any other parts of the hotel was converted. Theoretically you could get in there using SO's at 8 months but I can't speak as to the practical reality of that. I'm sure other people will chime in and add or correct any facts that need it but hope this helps! There's a reason that Steamboat's StarOption chart is the most complicated in the entire system :p

I own here. Both a Morningstar unit deeded week purchased back in 2007 and also Flex options purchased more recently. Everything there is considered a Timeshare now. The units retrofitted from the previous hotel rooms in the bigger buildings to the right of the lobby are much smaller in every way than the Morningstar units which are to the left of the lobby and bar area. If you are not an original owner of a deeded week in the Morningstar building, it is very difficult to reserve one of those (only) 21 units - 7 are 2 BR, and 14 are 3 BR in two different configurations. I've stayed in both sides of the resort. In addition to the larger size of the Morningstar units, they also seem more luxurious in the finishings.

The Morningstar Villas are classified as 2 BR Villa - Valleyside, 3 BR Villa - Valleyside, and 3 BR Villa - Mountainside. Everything else is in the former hotel buildings.
 
Love the area and the entire experience. I would bet it's crazy busy during the ski season.

I believe they are woefully understaffed here, just like everything else in CO. Help wanted signs are everywhere.

We went to McKnight's Irish Pub for dinner last night and it was not busy at all, but they had help-wanted signs on the windows, reduced hours for lack of help. The bartender and cook were doing all of the serving. About 10 tables were occupied for dinner, which is a lot for two people. The cook served the food and was very proud when he came back to clear the dishes (dishwashing is his other job besides cook and server) and we told him how wonderful the food was. It was so good. I highly recommend this restaurant for fish and chips (me) Guinness beef brisket with mash and corn for Rick, and our son had the shepherd's pie, which he said was very good.

I would go to that restaurant again, maybe even this trip. It was so good.

What is a 2br premium?

Honestly I'm not sure. The Vistana website only uses the word "premium" when describing the 1 BR "premium" villa (as part of the 2 BR lock-off) for the Sheraton Steamboat Villas. All I am certain of is that the words "Mountain Side" or "Valley Side" are included in any description for the two and three bedroom Morningstar units. There are no "lock-offs" or "one-bedrooms" or "studios" in the Morningstar building.

Do the units have A/C?
 
My husband and I are considering buying an timeshare in the Morningside building. It's a resale and listed as dedicated week and unit. Does anyone know if that will remain post conversion with Marriott? We are avid skiers and always stay at the Sheraton, but often it's difficult to get a villa/condo for the dates we want.

Since you currently own in Morningside, you are probably the best to ask. We are looking at a resale unit that is listed as fixed week and unit, do you know if that will remain post conversion? It's the week and unit we want, so it's important to ensure that's what we are actually getting.

We are staying next winter at Steamboat using Bonvoy points. in a studio. Any specific room, floor to request?

What do deeded weeks at Steamboat cost resale? They are voluntary not mandatory, correct?

What is the MF cost?

Asking the same question on multiple threads won't get you a different answer. Nobody on here knows for sure what is going to happen until Marriott announce it, supposedly sometime soon but there will certainly be uproar if they 'steal' fixed weeks and units.

Sorry to have offended you. I was sent to this thread from another thread, so thought it was OK to ask the same question here. Saw someone that is actually an owner in the area we are looking to buy and wanted to see if they had more information. There are only 7 of these units and a total of 21 units in the building we are looking to buy

If it’s truly a deeded fixed week nothing is going to change that. I’m fact, nothing in the combined system can change anything that is deeded. What can change are the options you have to exchange what you own for something you don’t, which is essentially what VSN and potentially any merged exchange system is.

As other have pointed out, even deeded floating weeks have an underlying unit to manage inventory. But you have no legal use right to that underlying unit if you own a floating week.

I just closed on a 3 bedroom 03 MorningStar Unit with week 7 deeded. I am considering renting it and perhaps purchasing some Flex Options. My goal is to rent and then stay in which ever piece of the puzzle is available.

If get a Big Number for the 3 bedroom rent it. Flex point into a 2, 3 or 4 bedroom lockout and stay at the spot that doesn't rent!

Have you rented your MorningStar Unit?

Have you rented your Flex Option Unit?

Is the Sheraton Steamboat Resort Villas operation receptive to owners renting?
