On Feb. 11. a young woman was sexually assaulted by a Bellboy at this
resort. The resort management spent more time questioning her about
how many drinks she had had, which was three (3), than trying to get
more information about the assault. She has asked that people be
aware of this place and to give it as much bad press as possible.

I did a google search and have only come up with posts to a Facebook page. Some of the reports say the victim was, "my aunt," "my niece," "[a member of] my embroidery groups daughter" etc... and that it's floating around in emails.

Not saying it didn't or couldn't happen, but there doesn't seem to be any official report yet.

I would be disinclined to start a negative internet campaign when I myself have no firsthand knowledge of good nor bad happening at that resort. I cannot in good conscience participate in smear tactics.

If OP is someone that knows the victim, please pass along my sympathies.

Just my two cents: Not discounting what may or may not have happened, but I've stayed at the HDM in Cabo, and found it to be a very nice place. Bad behavior by one person does not constitute grounds to start a hate campaign against the entire resort. If every resort where an incident may have happened got a bad press smear campaign, there'd be a lot fewer places to stay.

The facebook posts conflict with the first post at tug.

1. 1st post at tug says it was a young woman.

2. post at facebook shows a mature woman, 60 to 70 by the looks of it, claiming it was here.

We checked out of the resort on Feb 11 around noon. Enjoyed our stay there very much and were really impressed with the bell boys and the waiters in all the restaurants. They were all so friendly. Hard to believe something like this happened.

About Hacienda del Mar

A few of the responsders here rush to the aid of Hacienda del Mar. My wife and I have had a very negative experience there. We were both swindled by Hacienda del Mar. They lied about the discounts that we would be receiving, and they even lied about the contract - saying that it was an every-year program when they were sellling an every-other-year program, but worded the contract to read both ways. You can read more about our experience by searching for Hacienda del Mar Lies and Deception.

We have a very poor opinion about Hacienda del Mar.

You're referring to the timeshare sales people at HDM, and NOT the resort itself. Those are two VERY different things, and they can't be considered one and the same.

If you were to comb through resorts in the U.S. for examples of assault, I expect you'd find something. That would not justify damning the entire resort--and if it were the U.S., that wouldn't even be considered.

Most people can not (and will not) distinguish between these two. Also, when people have bad experience about one area of the resort, most guests will usually write bad things (which are untrue) about other aspects of the resort/hotel as well, just to hurt them badly. I see this all the time on tripadvisor reviews.

At one of the resorts in park city where I own many weeks, somebody illegally parked their car in their lot (ignored the warning signs saying parking was for registered guests only and that illegally parked vehicles will be booted). This person comes back, find a boot on his/her car, had to pay $50 to get the boot taken out (he/she was not staying at the resort), and than wrote a very negative review on tripadvisor about the resort, location, how dark and dingy lobby is, etc etc. I reported the review to tripadvisor , and they did nothing to take that out. How can somebody leave a review for a resort if they are not even staying there?

So, any of these reports about HDM may be motivated by some other motives (just my speculation since nothing was reported to the authorities).

I completely agree, which is why I read Tripadvisor reviews with a HUGE grain of salt. Somebody (I think it was here on TUG) called it the "lumpy pillow syndrome." Just because the person had a bad pillow, they rate the entire resort poorly. Just not fair at all.
