Can a Sheraton Flex week be rented?

You can make a reservation at one of the 9 Flex properties and rent out that reservation. If you reserve Westin resorts, then you get into StarOption territory and rentals are not technically permitted.

If the reservation shows on vistana.com as "Reservation Type: Home Resort Reservation:, yes you can rent it. If it shows as "Reservation Type: Vistana Signature Network Reservation", technically not allowed per the rules of the program.

Did you already buy Sheraton Flex, or are you just thinking about it?

I have owned Sheraton Flex for a few years but had never considered renting any of it. I’m just looking for ways to offset some of the maintenance fees when I’m unable to fully utilize what I have.

Aren't the current VSN rules more ambiguous now? It appears that they might allow rentals for units reserved with Staroptions if you solely own a unit at that resort, even when the Staroptions do not originate from that deed. Say you own Kaanapali and Sheraton flex. Technically speaking Kaanapali is your home resort and that allows you to rent a VSN reservation made there with the Sheraton Flex points. Not sure if I read that correctly but to me the change was make to allow MVC to rent using any Staroptions from any resort.

"Rental by a Network Member of Units reserved through Network (other than a Vacation Period reserved at the Network Member’s Home Resort) is prohibited."

With Flex Options, you can rent out any of the Flex resorts within the group.

I suspect that's more of an unintentional ambiguous wording than a policy change. I think the intent is that you can only rent Home Resort Reservations. But I agree that the way it's written, you could interpret it to mean that you can rent any reservation made at a resort which is a home resort for you.

This change occurred in the last update, which took place last year if I remember correctly. Given that many other clauses have remained unchanged, and given that the previous version of this specific clause functioned well, I am inclined to believe that this alteration was not unintentional. This is particularly evident because it significantly benefits the largest renter, MVC, as it allows them to utilize points from any resort without the necessity of tracking their origin, significantly streamlining their rental business.

I wasn't aware that the ambiguous wording was a recent change. Interesting...
