Hello,

I been wanting to buy a summer week in Myrtle Beach. I haved stayed at both Marriotts Ocean Watch and Shearton Broadway. The Marriott is just way to expensive. I very much liked the Sheraton as well the only negative is it is not on the ocean. I been looking on ebay as I see many people here seem to get great deals. I did see the Shearton on ebay with no reserve for a red week. Why would people sell on ebay w/o a reserve? I have no idea what the going rate is for this property but why would I not at least put in a bid--right? Can you really get a good property like this for cheap? Keep thinking there as to be a catch--what am I missing?

SBP weeks are being given away frequently these days, they are literally worthless. Because the maintenance fees are SO high and the value within the SVO system is so low. More importantly, SBP is a voluntary resort in the SVN, meaning that if you buy a resale, you only get a week, not options to use throughout the SVN. If you must buy at SBP, make sure you buy in the Palmetto Phase and that it's a summer week. Palmetto phase carries a much lower maintenance fee.........this tact would only be advisable if you were looking to come to Myrtle Beach every year, in the summer months...(and the Palmetto Phase is virtually impossible to run across on the resale mkt for a deal). I highly advise you to pass on the Plantation phase (high MF) weeks, even though they sell them every day for upwards of $20k....they are literally worthless.

Woody makes some good points here. The MF are SBP are quite high relative to other timeshares. Most people who buy timeshares often forget the yearly MF, which can be burdensome.

That said, I like my SBP unit, and happily pay the MF to use it. True, you don't get staroptions, but my family likes myrtle beach. So, if the OP likes SBP, and is willing to pay the MF, I say, go ahead and buy.

I have followed SBP auctions on ebay for a while, and the prices are dirt cheap (read: $1 and get the MF paid for you for one year)

Keep in mind that depending on when you travel, renting a week via II's getaway program is often less expensive (by a significant margin) to MF.

Hoping I am not making a mistake.....I did see alot of Sheraton Broadway Plantation on Ebay. So, I got caught up---saw a prime-red season float week every other year and maint fee was apporx. $560 per year. So, far I bid a max of $500. There were no closing fees or any other fees, just what you bid. The seller had a excellent rating--looks like a timeshare company. Is this bad idea?

Well I did it. I purchased a Sheraton Broadway Plantation on Ebay, EOY usage and maint fee of $561. Plantation phase. No closing costs or resort transfer fee. I paid $829 and includes usage for 2012. I asked the selller to request a summer week in Aug for me--do you think that is possible at such a late date? I originally wasn't going to go over $500 but I kept getting bid against. What I liked is the every other year usage as I don't think I will make it down that way every year. I do plan to use it and maybe once in awhile trade it on interval. So did I do bad? At least I didn't pay developer prices.

You definitely didn't "do bad" if you like the resort and plan to use it. EOY sounds like it will work for you. Sure as Hell beats Developer prices!!

Do you pay the $561 every other year, or do you pay $561 every year, and only get usage every other year???

That's an EOY MF cost, so double it per use.

What do you mean by special rules for deeded week? The week I think is 38mid sept. I would only want to go in the summer months--kids in school. Can't I request usage for any of the weeks in the season? The maint fee of $561 is every year.

Yup, from like 12 months out you can request in your season...BUT, if you got a good deeded week(i got week 34 when i bought) that you could use, you can request that week from 24-12 months out

I've been sending emails out for about 3 months trying to find a SBP with week 27 on the deed!

Thanks neighbor. You had me worried. Looking forward to going there. Thank you to all the TUG members who share their advice. I don't think I would have ever bought on Ebay.
