SBP, Myrtle Beach
I spent half a day walking around Sheraton Broadway Plantation about a month ago, mostly thru several units in different buildings, but also thru the rest of the resort---pools, "clubhouse", etc. The units I asked to see were specifically representative of the two types I knew about: (1) new buildings, lock-off and non-lockoff, in "Palmetto section" or phase II, and (2) older buildings, about 10-12 years old, in "plantation section" or phase I, all non-lockoff 2-BR's. I saw single BR units, 3-BR units, and the 2-BR's in both sections.
Building # 26 happened to be my favorite, because it was one of the NEW bldgs, and it was next door to the pool....... The units were absolutely beautiful (and my standard for comparison would be those of Marriott's resorts, since i own at Grande Ocean & Barony in Hilton Head). Honestly, they are very close in overall feel, layout, etc.......granite countertops, great decor, appealing layout, spacious, etc....
I also saw the ONE AND ONLY refurbished unit in the older plantation section (which functions as a model unit only, with no one ever slated to stay there until they're all refurbished), and it looked no different from the new section's units.....granite, flat screen TV's, new furniture, new tile everywhere, new sinks, new carpet, new decor and wall colors.....the works....and they did a magnificent job......'course it'll be about 2-3 years before they do the refurbishment due to the economy and the non-payment of maint fees by many owners, which has been discussed on the Starwood board. but when done, it's one beautiful place. Even now, the old units are quite nice ....not unclean or in disrepair at all, just a dated style decor. Still very attractive, tho.
So, it was all a pleasant surprise. And, as for bldg # 26, it has a great view of the pool area. Balconies were wonderful to just sit and look out over the resort. Pool complex was awesome too....walked around every inch of it. Indoor pool was just as nice as Marriott's, also. I thought that SBP resort would be a 2nd or 3rd-tier resort, but it was not......I might give the Marriotts a slightly higher rating, but not by much.
Of course, i haven't stayed there yet, so I can't judge anything but what I saw.
The staff was extremely friendly, and surprisingly accommodated my request to see it all....one staffer even left the front desk to take me on my personal tour of the several buildings. We took a good 45 minutes to an hour.
The reason for my interest is that I (too) bought 2 resale Ebay summer weeks in the older section. My plan is ONLY to OCCUPY, never to trade. I have college kids who will use it, or members of my staff....i have six employees and frequently give weeks to them. We may use it occasionally, but for what we plan to do, it's perfect. Honestly, i was almost shocked to learn that it was so nice...i was expecting a "6", but saw an "8+". jme
