We were there last week. We were in building 13 on the 3rd floor (12 and 13 are combined) and it was quiet and close to the pool. The buildings at the front (1 and 2, I think) are closer to the road so would be less desirable. 10 and 11 would be probably more quiet. There's no view to speak of so that's not an issue. When I get better at this stuff I'll remember to save my map so I can scan it and post it.
I got coupons from lots of places. Broadway at the Beach has coupons on its website -- one is a coupon for a coupon book! We had dinner at Amici's there and it was very good. The Tanger Outlet mall website (tanger.com) has coupons as well if you're going to go shopping at the outlet mall. Get both the mall coupon book and the AAA coupon book if you're a AAA member. They are different and the amounts differ for some shops as well. myrtlebeachinfocenter.com also has coupons for some of the shows.
The mall is south on 17 Bypass by the airport. It's a pretty normal mall -- new and nice, but normal. If it didn't have the "Carolina Girls, Best in the World" T-shirt store I'd think I was at my local mall.
The Bi-Lo (grocery store) is on the corner of 17 Bypass and 38th -- just around the corner from SBP. It's open 24 hours and has a pharmacy section and a wine/beer section. The liquor store is in that same center.
We also went to SeaCaptains to eat. It's a converted house that when we went (for dinner on Easter) had a ton of locals. It's advertised everywhere. The food there is good but might be pricey depending on what you get. It has a website so you can decide if that's how you want to get seafood.
There is public beach access at the end of 38th. The problem is that access point has no bathrooms. We went south to about 21st or so to a paid parking lot that had porta-potties. These lots are small and fill fast so if you want to spend the day at the beach get up early and go.
SPB seems to have an exlusive deal with Ripley's Aquarium at Broadway at the Beach where you can go into the stingray tank and "swim with the stingrays and sharks". Actually you get to pet them as they swim by while the handler feeds them. It's very cool. My DD11, DS8, and I did it while the DH took pictures. We were in the water about 20-25 minutes. You can stay at the Aquarium after the experience to see all the other fish and creatures if you drive yourself over there (the 2 minute drive from SBP or 10 minute bike ride, that is). Price is $35 per person.
The outdoor pool has a lazy river, a larger section, and a kiddie pool. There are also 2 hot tubs. They are working on another outdoor pool that should be done this summer or sooner(?). There is also an indoor pool that connects to the outdoor one. Lots of loungechairs and tubes for the lazy river.
This is not a fancy resort. No spa, small workout area, no restaurant (just a pool bar with a small amount of food). The daily activities looked fun but we didn't do much of them. Our 2BR (not LO) was basically the same size as Vistana Lakes (but much more updated).
Hmm -- this is starting to sound like a review.
Guess I'll now have to fork up the 15 bucks to submit it!
