Shawnee Village questions

I'm looking to plan a trip here in June or July, never been. I understand this is an older resort with several HOA's, each with unique layouts and floor plans. I also understand that Crestview is the newest section there, that it's a standard newer Wyndham design multi-unit condo-style design like Nashville, Governors Green, Cypress Palms and Smokey Mountains.

I only need a 1 BR. I don't really care about getting an older unit, I actually prefer the older stand-alone or "cabin" type resorts like Lake Lure, Sapphire and to some degree The Glade. The only sections which have 1BR are Depuy and Fairway Village. Which are some of the oldest, and worst reviewed sections... which, like I said, I can deal with as long as it's clean.

My issue is, according to the room details, these 1BR units have 2 double beds in all units, instead of a 1 King or 1 Queen. I'm shocked as i've never run into this. Even a 1BR suite I've gotten at other resorts have at least a queen. This room design baffles me. Was this room designed by Ward and June Cleaver in the 1950's?

Me and my wife will be traveling alone, and just looking for clean, cozy, comfortable and quiet, but we are also bigger people, and a double bed isn't going to cut it.

So my option is, I guess book a 2BR which we don't need and waste points.

I have heard some of the units here have been renovated recently, i'm looking to see if anyone has stayed in a 1BR unit and could verify of any of the have a Queen or King bed.

If I do have to go 2BR, what are your real feelings about which section for a 2BR that isn't Crestview... like I said, rustic is fine, I know by now that a lot of the bad reviews are coming from people who expect tenderloin on a cubed steak budget or expect everywhere to be Bonnet Creek. The "worst" place we have stayed is Mountain Laurel at Sapphire Valley and we loved it. Room was fine, I could care less about the outdated furniture. It was clean, comfy and perfect for what we needed. I'm looking for something like this at Shawnee... Ridge Top seems to be the general consensus of "second best".

The bedrooms in the older units aren’t big enough to accommodate a king sized bed - some would barely accommodate a queen sized bed - many of the Fairway and Depuy two bedroom units only have a double bed in the primary bedroom IME. The two bedroom units in River Village II and Ridge Top usually have a queen sized bed - the two bedroom deluxe units may have a king sized bed. We haven’t stayed in any of the one bedroom units nor have we stayed in Depuy - but we have stayed in several of the Ridge Top and River Village II units, and most recently stayed in Fairway Village last month. The Fairway Village unit we stayed in last month had three double beds. One in the primary bedroom and two in the second bedroom.

We do prefer Crestview but oftentimes cannot score a unit in that section especially in the discount window.

Thanks for the input. I just figured if a bedroom can accommodate two double beds (and assuming a single nightstand between the two, it could accommodate a single king.

King is basically two double beds, almost the same dimensions. But I will take your word for it, having never seen the units.

We like Depuy. They’ve been renovated and are down by the river with a nice large porch. The master bed is a queen in a 2br. I am pretty sure at least. My husband and I can’t sleep together in a double.

Yes, but then the second bedrooms would only sleep two as opposed to four - which cuts down on the total number of occupants the entire unit can accommodate - which isn't desirable either.

Calling would probably be best - though I'm not sure you'll get exactly what you're looking for even if you call. There are ton of units at that resort, especially in the Ridge Top sections. Most of the older units were built in the 1970's era literally - and were built to compliment the actual Shawnee Inn resort area. I've never actually stayed in any of the older units that have a king sized bed, but a small subset of which - called two bedroom deluxes - supposedly may have a kind sized bed according to the website. I suspect that info may be inaccurate in all honesty based upon the unit layouts - there's just not enough room. I suppose it's possible that there's a layout I haven't actually seen yet with my own two eyes given how many units are on resort. If you call - I would explicitly ask if there are any non-Crestview units with a king sized bed and if so - what are the unit numbers. If you do end up making this ask and get an actual answer - please post back into this thread - as it would be really good info to know. All of the Crestview units have a king sized bed in the main bedroom in comparison and are much more modern in look and feel.

Like you - we don't particularly mind the older units - as each area has its unique charm due to the immediate surrounding area. The Fairway Village units are very close to the Shawnee Inn - within walking distance - as is the Shawnee General Store and the Gem and Keystone pub/restaurant. The River Village II units - at least a subset of them - have a decent view of the Delaware river and the golf course on the island. Same with a subset of the River Village I units. We haven't stayed in River Village I just yet - that's still on our list. These units are closer to the Inn as well. Ridge Top and Crestview are up closer to the resort lodge area in comparison - you have to drive to get to any restaurants other than local Thai or Italian places across the main road from the lodge area.

I just made reservations for Old Town Alexandria but the availability was short by a couple of days so we're thinking of hitting Shawnee on the way home for a couple of nights to check it out. The first night we'll probably arrive later in the evening so I'm looking for advice on what is easiest as far as being close to check-in and parking. We only need a 1BR, but I'm willing to book a 2BR for the convenience if Fairway Village or Dupuy aren't going to be the most convenient.

I would book River Village 2. We prefer Crestview then Ridge Top Deluxe.

I just made reservations for Old Town Alexandria but the availability was short by a couple of days so we're thinking of hitting Shawnee on the way home for a couple of nights to check it out. The first night we'll probably arrive later in the evening so I'm looking for advice on what is easiest as far as being close to check-in and parking. We only need a 1BR, but I'm willing to book a 2BR for the convenience if Fairway Village or Dupuy aren't going to be the most convenient.

For convenience, either Fairway Village OR Depuy, as they are both walking distance over to the Shawnee Inn, the Shawnee Craft Brewery (if you like that) or even to The Gem and the Keystone ... Rustic, no frills, along the Delaware River and the golf course, etc.

Shawnee Inn also has restaurant and bar, cafe, etc .... We've been to Shawnee countless times and often when just my wife and I, we take convenience of walking to these locations as opposed to the newer units on top of the hill (a half-mile away from the Shawnee Inn and river, etc.)

I didn't end up going, so can't really answer the question. Think the consensus was that DePuy 1 BR's had 1 double bed

The resort is usually very accommodating and will switch a room for you with just a request. My SIL has difficulty with stairs and the room assigned had 43 stairs to reach the unit. When they asked at check in, it was gladly swapped for a room with five steps to the unit. I would think they’d swap you to a room with a larger bed if such is available.

The Ridge Top units have been nicely updated.

Not all of RidgeTop has been updated just FYI - this is the largest section of units at the resort - so if you stay in RidgeTop - make sure to ask for an updated unit - preferably an end unit as well.
