I've decided I'm finally going to join an exchange company so after watching the great advice on TUG have decided it will be SFX. I was hoping to deposit when they are giving bonus weeks but the week I want to deposit is only 17 months away and I know many of you deposit earlier. SInce I am a teacher I can only travel at peak times so what do you suggest deposit now or wait? Does anyone know when they might put on the bonus week promotion again. I am a little confused about whether SFX's bonus weeks can be used during peak weeks. I believe they can be for an additional fee of around $299. Am I correct? I have already checked that they will accept my weeks. Thanks in advance.

Joan :)

We have always been able to get a bonus week for I believe $299 and I have used them in summer and at Easter, also. 17 months ahead should be plenty of time. I think you have to be a platinum member to get the bonus week.

I just deposit two week with SFX, both for this year. I got two bonus week, and I already book a great New Years week using my bonus week. For a new member, you will get the bonus week as long as you have ther prime season. You should ask SFX at this forum http://www.timeshareforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=75

Mark from SFX will always answer your question within couple of days and he is very honest.

You don't have to be a platinum member or a new member to get a bonus week, but you do have to deposit a prime season week in one of the resorts they take. Deposit it when SFX is having a bonus week promotion. Last year I deposited a week during a promotional period (I think it was in June) and received two bonus weeks for $299 each - one good only for the Mayan resorts in Mexico - in addition to my exchange.
Their current promo isn't as good, probably because it's getting late to deposit a 2006 week. SFX 2006 Special Offer
They'll likely have a new promo for 2007 week's deposit after this one expires.

Thanks for the advice. I will contact Mark and see if I can get a bonus week now on my prime summer week especially. $299 is worth it for me to pick up a prime week if I get lucky. I don't have any 2006 weeks left, we use our ski week most years and I exchanged my summer week privately over a year ago for Manhatten Club. like most Tuggers I'm working on 2007 or at the earliest 2006 Xmas.

Be careful! Check the terms of the bonus week in your offer as we just received a reminder offer and I noticed that the bonus weeks are now $499 (not $299) in the latest offer.

$499 is no longer a great deal -- we are hesitant to deposit for $499 bonus weeks since our weeks are also so far off...

I agree, it definitely doesn't seem like as much of a "bonus" at $499, especially for a one bedroom. There are a lot of "getaways" through II and EVs through RCI in that range; maybe not all 5* and GC, but some decent weeks.

First of all if you are a platinum member you get $20 off the bonus week. They generally offer the bonus week promo in the summer until about mid September. Sometimes its a good deal sometimes not. One of the bonus weeks I have is for Mayan Palace exclusively. That's the same Mayan Palace I could get off the last minute exchange board for $99. On the other hand, some are quite good. I chose to take London as a bonus week. It was certainly worth the fee. You just have to make the assessments as to whether each is worth it to you. The details are all explained on their website. Sometimes their site needs to be explored fully to find everything but its all there. I prefer SFX over RCI by a large margin.
