I had the unfortunate experience of offering a timeshare for free on this thread. The "buyer" signed the contract. I paid all the fees to transfer the property with the only cost for the buyer to be a $100 fee charged by the timeshare. The buyer never paid the fee and I lost the money paid to the transfer company. Since their legal team did the work, I had to pay the fees.

If you pay the $100 fee to the resort will they complete the transfer for you? If you have the signed contract and the recorded deed in the new owner's name, it would be worth it (to me) to pay the $100 and be done with it.

Assuming the Timeshare is now out of your name (and your legal responsibility) then I would say it was a very worthwhile $100 expenditure.

Now, regarding the ethics of the buyer? That's an entirely different conversation.

thankfully it was a trivial amount (and likely more than worth it to complete the transaction)...but I always suggest reaching out to the resort to confirm any and all fees related to the transfer! these ticky tack add on fees are becoming more and more common.

I worked with LT Transfers.

I offereed by LT Transfer would not do it. Said timeshare company won't except in fear that person won't pay fees.

LT Transfer did not finish the deed work. Still in my name.

My contract with buyer that LT Transfer handled included an agreement buyer would pay transfer fee. Buyer just disappeared when it came time for them to pay the fee.

I have never heard of this happening before. was the buyer a person or an entity/corporation? perhaps they were already known by the resort or developer for owning an existing unit (s) already in default?

I did that once. I didn’t realize that the transfer hadn’t taken place until I got a maintenance fee bill. I sent them the deed and the $100 and never heard from them again.
