VI auctions/sells timeshares on eBay. I contacted them to see how much they would charge me to sell my timeshare for me. Below is their response.
Basically they tell seller that timeshare is worthless and then charge seller almost $1000 to gain title to it and then turn around and sell it on eBay between $2000 and $5000,
depending on what market will bear. I dont want to call this a scam, but "if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck then it probably is a duck...."

Hello,

Thank you for contacting me regarding your interest in getting rid of your timeshare. Unfortunately, your timeshare property has little or NO monetary value on the secondary market. Please keep in mind that purchasing a timeshare is NOT a real estate investment. Unfortunately, your timeshare is a luxury vacation property that decreases in value on a daily basis, and, increases in liability on an annual basis. I am certain this current information was not disclosed to you when you purchased the timeshare property. All of us make educated decisions based on facts. You made your decision based on the facts that were presented to you at the time of purchase. Obviously, some of those facts have changed or were never accurate to begin with. Now you're faced with your current predicament and the brutal reality of the secondary market for timeshares. We are one of the few companies who will offer timeshare owners a cost effective "exit strategy", legally and accurately transferring title from your name. Unfortunately, considering the limited value of your timeshare in the secondary market, we can only assist you in moving the property out of your name, forever alleviating your perpetual maintenance and tax fee burden.

We handle ALL the details regarding transfer, using a third-party independent Title/Escrow company that is licensed, insured and bonded. You will ONLY be responsible for closing and transfer fees in the amount of $997* (or the equivalent of two times (2x) your annual maintenance fee, the lesser of the two . Mortgage must be satisfied with all fees current through the end of this year). Again, the $997 in closing and transfer costs are payable to a licensed, insured, and bonded title company. The funds are not released from escrow until the property has been transferred. Escrow and Transfer is handled by:

Timeshare Closing Services, Inc.

7345 Sand Lake Road, Suite 303

I look forward to your reply and thank you again for your interest in transferring your timeshare property.

Best Regards,

These companies have been around for a while

They and a few others are collectively called the Post Card companies. If they are only wanting $1000, that is much lower than many have reported here in the past.

as to the unit your trying to sell,
there is one on Ebay with 4 hours to go http://cgi.ebay.com/ECVC-POINTS-Mex...155968632QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item110155968632

with a $1 bid.

So, use this additional information to help you set a sales value for your unit.

Paul,
If you do a search here, they have been discussed previously and yes, you are correct in your assessment. I will tell you this though, the market for *** DEEDED Fairfield points used to be about $3,000 and that has declined alot recently. So I can only image what the resale value is for a RTU. Not a lot I guess. But, still not totally worthless. Thankfully, you know enough to recognize them for what they are. Many do not and do pay them to profit off of their very valuable timeshares.

I agree with the response.. If your RTU expires in 2003 , it is worthless.

I have bought from VI network many times and they have always done a great job.

I guess the down turn not only hurting the stock market but the scammers too! Remember the good old days (LAST WEEK) when they were getting $2500-$3500 to take your worthless timeshare!:hysterical:
