This may be a dumb question, but as a Marriott owner can I "refer myself" to take advantage of any member promotional offer? If so, would I then get MR points or MF reduction for touring and additional incentives if I buy?

Thanks

My last preview pit

At my last preview pit I was told that if I purchased I would get 40,000 points for referring myself since I am a current Marriott Owner.

There was a special bonus time that self referral points were 80k. There was a lso a time that corporate sales offered 80k when the onsite sales person did not. I think they were trying to promote buying over the phone w/out a sales pitch.

The 40K number matches up with what Friendshare currently pays per interval, so maybe it's all the same now. If so, then either it's changed or we got a 40K "gift" ;)

Pat

Pat,
Didn't you buy two weeks at once? That is probably why you received 80,000. (40K for each week)

Here's another question... For folks living in NC, do we get another 10K points on top of whatever the incentive is for the presentation for self referral? I know for people living in NC, they get referral points for every presentation that people attend.

FYI,

There was a time that 80K was given as self referral for a single week purchase.

Michelle -

You are mixing the two programs.

The self referral incentive is normally 40K or 80K points, generally depending on whether you buy multiple weeks and/or whether Marriott has a special promotion going on at the time you buy.

The separate program is for referring others. The points that you get vary depending on your state of residence and whether the referred person buys. From the program rules: If your friend completes a sales presentation, you may be eligible to receive 10,000 Marriott Rewards points. If your friend purchases an Every-Year interest, you may be eligible to receive 40,000 Marriott Rewards points. If your friend purchases an Every-Other-Year interest, you may be eligible to receive 20,000 Marriott Rewards points.

State by state details for referring others:

Residents of MN, NC, PA, SC and VA are only eligible to receive up to 10,000 Marriott Rewards points after the friend completes a sales presentation. VA residents may be eligible to receive 10,000 Marriott Rewards points or a 10% maintenance fee credit if the friend completes a sales presentation at an MVCI property within the state of VA. Residents of TX are eligible to receive 5,000 Marriott Rewards points or a maintenance fee credit of up to $50 per friend who completes a sales presentation.

Residents of the other 42 eligible states and Puerto Rico are eligible to receive up to 40,000 Marriott Rewards after the friend completes the purchase of an Every-Year interest, as determined by MVCI. Residents of the other 42 eligible states and Puerto Rico are eligible to receive up to 20,000 Marriott Rewards points after the friend completes the purchase of an Every-Other-Year interest. (VA residents may be eligible to receive 40,000 Marriott Rewards points or a 50% maintenance fee credit if their friend purchases an Every-Year interest (20,000 Marriott Rewards points or 25% maintenance fee credit if their friend purchases an Every-Other-Year interest) at any MVCI or Horizons by Marriott Vacation Club property outside the state of Virginia.)

I purchased my Waiohai EOY resale. Last week I purchased a Legends Edge EOY from the developer while in Waiohai and received 20,000 self referral points. I also recived 20K preview, 100K foor 2007 week and 75K bonus.

Yes, we did. That might explain the difference, or maybe it was just 80K at the time.

I'm still interested if resale-only owners get friendshare referral points. I haven't been able to find any annecdotes about that. I'm sure there are plenty of people who don't own developer intervals who do use the MR program otherwise.

If so, perhaps that will be another area getting "enhanced" with the coming changes...

Pat,
Before purchasing Legends Edge last July from Marriott, I received referral points from a tour my inlaws did. I received 5,000 MR points. At that time I was a lowly "external" owner of Waiohai. Of course I received my own referral points for my purchase of MLE as stated above.
:D
